Redskins Free Agency Hampered by Draft

With the draft board so uncertain even with the top picks it is difficult for Washington to program free agents to certain spots.

Washington doesn't want to sign a left tackle for toomuch money as Okung could be the pick.

At the same time either McCoy or Suh could fall into the team's lap at #4, hence only preliminary talks with guys like Kemoeatu who won't sign until April or May.

Why do Redskins fans continue to try and find rationale for this new FA approach? They aren't throwing tons of money to mediocre players - Redskins fans don't need to try and find reasons for this, its just a new financial strategy. A very welcome one, in my opinion.

If you are feed steak every off season and all of a sudden you are feed oatmeal, you will go into a state of shock. Like allot of the fans are doing. They dont know what to do with themselves when a dramatic change comes your way.

Steak looks good and tastes good but too much will leave your heart hurting. Oatmeal is bland but in the long run its good for you.

I don't think that your plans for the draft have any bearing on what you do in free agency. You take what you can get in both. I am sure the Skins would have no problem grabbing a tackle in FA as well as the draft, if there was a good tackle to be taken in FA.

The FA this year are poor, beat down, and on their last legs. I am glad the Skins have not made any crazy moves. Plus, there will be another round of FA after the draft, and there will be trades (more than usual IMO) on draft day.

Exactly. You evaluate what's available in the draft, and you sign free agents accordingly. If you think there is no top-tier OT available in the draft, you sign one via FA or acquire one via trade and vice-versa. Or, you have a long-term rebuild in place, and you take what you can get.

Patience.
I kind of like it.
It doesn't fit the norms of the "fast food society" for which we live and I know I have my moments of antsyness and wonder who and when will the Skins sign the next player to fill a need.....

but the "buy, buy, buy" everybody is (was) elite on their former team, player is gone.
Hopefully we'll draft well and this team can be building to be a real winner by 2011.
