Random Commanders Thoughts

Life goes on. Twisting and spinning and being angry about things you cannot change is unhealthy and produces nothing positive or of any value. But I don’t think you’re the only fan who feels a sense of loss or betrayal over it.

It doesn't matter if it was lip service or appeasing the "social do gooders" out there, but it is the fact that the money has been cut off to needy Native American communities and reservations. And it is truly needed.

It's a shame that wealthy NA landowners, business owners, casino operators control nearly all of the money. The awareness that the old team name brought to these areas throughout the west, southwest, northern Plains, and Alaska did help. Not a lot, but it did help.

Taking away team names just to appease "white guilt" only makes matters worse. It feels like much of America is just trying to sweep it all under the rug. If anyone has the right to massive protests, it is Native Americans. I fear for their future. But hey, at least some people feel better about getting rid of some team names around the country.

Bingo. Just erasing themselves, for no actual gain. But that's how short sighted victimhood works, no matter the situation.

I've accepted the change, because i don't care to get angsty about things i can't control. But it was not anything that helped anyone. I just pay attention to this team as I've invested a significant amount of time on them, and truly like some of the players.

They have to earn my fanhood though, no more free passes for inept seasons. I hope they do well, i know this team... But any attachment through think and this is gone until they earn that right another way.

Just my take 😀

Setting aside the obvious political elements in all this - Redskins fans deserve so much more for their commitment, devotion, and support of this team over decades. They really do. I argue with some of you, even though you are my brothers, over all kinds of things. But even those who I have argued or disagreed the most with over the years, I still count as friends, and recognize every fan's right to feel however they feel about what we've all experienced together over recent years.

It ain't easy being green. And it sure as hell hasn't been easy being burgundy and gold.

I guess all any of us can hope for is that better days are ahead. The future almost has to be better, right?

Boone, in all honesty, you and the community created here is the only reason I'm still engaged at all. Without the people here, I'd be completely checked out, and I'm continuing on based on inertia from this site :)

I really couldn't even bring myself to engage in fantasy at all this year, I just couldn't bring myself to care enough to pay attention as it takes to do it. Same with the pick-em. But I do enjoy the sibling-like banter that this site has, so I keep coming back for more. :D

Last October, the family and I went to Oklahoma City to pick up my service pet, Elsa. It was a straight ride on I-40 from Memphis and we stopped in Eastern Oklahoma for lunch. We found a little hole in the wall (those are the best places to eat) and suddenly realized that we were in the heart of Cherokee Nation. The owner (full blooded Cherokee) came over to greet us and learned about our trip. We talked with him until the meal arrived and learned so much about him, his family, and family ancestry (Trail of Tears, sadly). What a great visit!

I did mention my favorite team and he said that no one had a problem with the name, but everyone there is a Kansas City Chiefs fan and many of them go to games often. It makes sense as it is a straight drive to the north. Learned more that day about Cherokee Nation and also the Osage to the northwest, Choctaw to the southwest, Chickasaw further to the west, and Muscogee just to the west - I think that is where they are all located.

On the way back a couple of days later, we stopped in again. Same warm hospitality and same great food. I'd love to go back and spend some time in that area. Just wonderful people. But again, no problem with the team name and most everyone in that area cheers for the Chiefs. That visit last fall is why I cheered for the Chiefs throughout the playoffs. Eastern Oklahoma must've loved it when their team won.

This is where I am at. I am not happy the name changed, and I'll always be a bit heartbroken that it has happened. I also dont begrudge anyone in reacting or handling it however they choose. I've invested myself in this franchise for as long as I can remember, predating Snyder. It's not the same, but like you said, I know this team. I cant walk away from it... yet.

If the new name sucks, I might walk away. If Snyder still owns the team in 4 years and the recent hires have all been dismissed, I might walk away. I may gradually drift into the bushes like the Homer meme where he slides back. I am pretty damn sure I won't reemerge with a different color jersey on though. The team still has a chance to earn my fandom, and it's likely the only one that has a chance.

Our fans are a bunch of total dicks on social media. Apparently, they have a constitutional right to win every Sunday, and if players have a bad day, to say whatever nasty, cruel comment that comes to mind.

So embarrassing. People need to grow the **** up.

Take out the 1 - 2 - 1 Eagles who we beat and that number is even wilder at 15 - 5

rumor it could be about 3000 fans

No wonder folks feel more a part of something here. There are more fans here than at the games.

Note I am not including the horde of 20 something people that show up in Cooley jerseys and are looking for fights in the stands after they get drunk.
