REDSKINS SIGN RB RYAN GRANT

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent running back Ryan Grant. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The team placed running back Roy Helu, Jr. on its Reserve/Injured list.

Grant (6-1, 222) is entering his sixth NFL season after originally signing with the New York Giants as a college free agent on May 6, 2005. He was traded to the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 1, 2007. He became a free agent on March 13, 2012.

In five seasons, Grant appeared in 63 games with 52 starts, amassing 924 rushing attempts for 4,016 yards (4.3 avg.) and 25 rushing touchdowns. He has also compiled 92 receptions for 726 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. Grant is one of 16 active NFL players to have eclipsed 4,000 career rushing yards. He was one of only four players to post consecutive 1,200-yard rushing seasons in 2008 and 2009, joining former first round picks Chris Johnson, Thomas Jones and Adrian Peterson.

Grant played collegiately at Notre Dame from 2001-04, appearing in 41 games with 26 starts and becoming a four-year letterman. He finished his career with 560 carries for 2,220 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. In his senior season in 2004, he came the 13th player in Notre Dame history to reach 2,000 career rushing yards.

Grant, 29, attended Don Bosco Prep H.S. in Ramsey, N.J., where he rushed for 1,963 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior in 2000 and was named as the New Jersey Player of the Year by USA Today. He was born on Dec. 9, 1982, in Suffern, N.Y.
