We're officially in the dog days of the NFL offseason, staring at our clocks, counting down the seconds until teams report for training camp as sweat drips from our brow due to the ungodly heat wave that hit the U.S. over the last week.
And while some are lucky enough to be fans of a baseball team good enough to keep them engaged and distracted through summer, folks like me who root for the Pirates know that we'll be begging for August to get here by the end of May.
So, instead of watching poor Paul Skenes go 7 and two-thirds while giving up three hits and one run only to still somehow get a no-decision, I wanted to pour myself into making a gridiron crystal ball - looking ahead to the 2025 season and what will happen, but also the 2026 offseason and what every team will look like at this time next year.
I already did a deep dive into these predictions earlier this offseason (though there have been very slight alterations since then), so here is a quick synopsis of each division.
The NFL trade deadline used to be a complete nothing-burger. However, in the last handful of seasons, we've seen major stars on the move in-season. Davante Adams and Amari Cooper were both traded in 2024, as were Marshon Lattimore, Za'Darius Smith, DeAndre Hopkins, and several others. With that said, these trades will happen in 2025:
The Steelers were one of two teams that reached out to the Broncos both before and during the 2024 NFL draft regarding a potential trade for Sutton, a source told Touchdown Wire last year. With Pittsburgh still being thin at wideout opposite DK Metcalf, and Sutton playing on the final year of his deal, it's not hard to see why both sides would come together on a deal, especially if Denver starts off slow.
Give it about 11 minutes of Shane Steichen watching Daniel Jones hitting the wide open safety before he and Chris Ballard call the Falcons and give up a Day Two pick for Cousins.
Njoku would be an upgrade over Grant Calcaterra, and would also allow Dallas Goedert to take a small step back as TE2 on the depth chart.
Davis is 37, and this is likely his swan song in the NFL. For a guy who has aged like wine and continues to be one of the game's best linebackers, he deserves a shot to play for a contender. Putting him alongside Edgerrin Cooper would make for a deadly pairing.
The Saints should continue embracing the complete tear down to the foundation and starting over. Like Davis, Mathieu can still provide a team with good play. He has one Super Bowl ring and could get another in Buffalo.
Jordan Love has caught some slack for his performance against the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild card round, but he had a very good 2024 campaign, despite playing injured throughout the year. He suffered a leg injury Week 1 in Brazil, which caused him to miss two games. Despite that, he still threw 25 touchdowns and had a 96.7 passer rating, which ranked 12th in the NFL. With a new addition in Matthew Golden at receiver, and a (hopefully) completely healthy season, Love will have an even better 2025 and earn MVP honors.
Like in 2024, the Bengals are going to need to score a lot. The offense runs through what Ja'Marr Chase does on the outside. He's coming off a career year, winning the NFL Triple Crown, and it wouldn't shock anyone to see him put up similar numbers.
Will Anderson is coming off an 11-sack season and has emerged as one of the top pass rushers in the NFL. All of the Texans' defensive stars are returning, and Anderson is only getting better.
If the Patriots end up being a playoff team, Mike Vrabel will certainly be in the Coach of the Year conversation and should win it.
Ashton Jeanty was the consensus top running back in the draft and will be the player in which the Raiders drive their offense.
Abdul Carter showcased what a monster he was while dominating the semi-finals of the College Football Playoff with a bad shoulder. With Brian Burns and Dexter Lawrence sharing a defensive line with him, he will have every opportunity to get to the quarterback.
When Christian McCaffrey is healthy, he is one of the best running backs in football. Should he stay healthy, he's an easy shoo-in to win this award.
Dion Dawkins helped pioneer the award, and he gets some much-deserved recognition for being one of the best left tackles in the NFL.
The Patriots will be one of the stories of the NFL, but Drake Maye and Co. will fall short in the battle of teams for whom Mike Vrabel played.
The Steelers will get that elusive 11th win in the regular season and go into Cincinnati to defeat a Bengals team whose defense continues to hold them back.
Baltimore gets past Houston, despite the Texans' defense making things very interesting.
The shock of the weekend is the 49ers going into Philadelphia and defeating the defending Super Bowl champions, adding another chapter to this rivalry.
The Lions exhibition squash a Falcons team that is in over their heads with a ton of talent who have never been in this spot before.
Josh Allen retires his good friend, Aaron Rodgers, who can hold his head high after a successful final season that saw him end the Steelers' playoff win drought.
As they usually do, the Chiefs handle the Ravens, and questions get really loud about whether John Harbaugh is the guy in Baltimore.
Jordan Love plays an outstanding game and does something Rodgers couldn't - lead Green Bay to a playoff win over the 49ers.
Matthew Stafford gets revenge on his former team for the playoff loss they handed him two seasons ago, and fans in Detroit begin to wonder if that 2023 season was as good as it will get.
I tell myself after each heartbreaking Bills loss to the Chiefs that I can't pick them to beat Kansas City in the postseason until they show me they can. And maybe I'll be wrong again and they'll continue to come up short, but with that quarterback, eventually they will get it done. For the sake of Josh Allen's sanity, as well as the well-being of Western New York, hopefully this is the year.
On the NFC side, Jordan Love cements himself as one of the 10 best quarterbacks in the NFL by leading the Packers to the conference championship game, but they come up just shy of reaching the Super Bowl as McVay, Stafford, and Co. win their second NFC Championship in five seasons.
After eight years of gut punches and coming within grasp of a championship, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills finally bring a Super Bowl parade to the 716 area code as he firmly places himself in the conversation of top 10 quarterbacks of all time.
With how I see the 2025 season playing out, the following teams should be looking for head coaches: New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, and Miami Dolphins.
Mike McCarthy is taking the 2025 season off, but will have multiple suitors once the offseason begins for teams looking for new head coaches. He's coached two cornerstone franchises in the Packers and Cowboys - he can handle the media attention in New York.
Should the Browns win just eight games over two years, I could certainly see Kevin Stefanski getting fired, but I also don't think he would be too upset at leaving a Browns franchise that continues to sabotage itself. The two-time coach of the year wouldn't be on the market for five minutes before Jerry and Stephen Jones ring him up.
Joe Brady has ties to the area, as he was LSU's pass-game coordinator in 2019 and was an offensive assistant with the Saints from 2017-18. Should he help the Bills win a Super Bowl, he will almost certainly take a head coach gig.
Ejiro Evero is one of the best defensive minds in the NFL. Should the Panthers move on from Dave Canales, they should promote Evero to be the new head man.
Brian Flores has commanded one of the NFL's best defenses over the last two seasons in Minnesota. He goes to Cleveland, and could potentially bring former Browns quarterback and current Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown with him to be his OC.
How poetic would it be for the grandson of Don Shula to become the next head coach of the Dolphins? Chris Shula has done a terrific job with a young Rams defense, especially Jared Verse, who was Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2024. He comes to Miami to instill some much-needed toughness in a Dolphins team that has been one of the league's softest in the McDaniel era.
Not only will the Dolphins move on from McDaniel, but they will also bring in a new quarterback and acquire Kyler Murray from the Cardinals
A rare in-division trade at quarterback. We've seen it before when the Eagles traded Donovan McNabb to the then-Washington Redskins, and we see it again in 2026 when the Dolphins ship Tua to the Jets, who will try to Jared Goff-ify him in Tanner Engstrand's offense.
After another disappointing playoff loss, the Ravens go all in and acquire Tyreek Hill to give themselves perhaps the most star-studded offense since the 2007 Patriots.
Full disclosure, I expect the following players to remain with their current teams: T.J. Watt, Trey Smith, Trey Hendrickson, Terry McLaurin, and Mike Evans. Everyone else is fair game.
Khalil Mack returns for one more year and joins a Packers team that was one game away from the Super Bowl, hoping he can help put them over the top.
Deebo Samuel reunites with DeMeco Ryans, who was on the 49ers staff before taking the Texans' head coaching job, and also gives C.J. Stroud a much-needed dual-threat weapon.
Because why would the Chargers get Justin Herbert a receiver when they can continue signing former Ravens for Greg Roman?
The Dolphins add Pickens to be the vertical threat opposite Jaylen Waddle. Murray, Waddle, and Pickens in the same offense? I'd be intrigued by that.
Pitts becomes a versatile safety blanket for Trevor Lawrence and returns to Florida, where he spent his college days.
The Commanders need help at pass rusher, which will become painfully evident multiple times in 2025. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to trade for Koonce or another edge rusher before the 2025 trade deadline.
The 49ers finally fix up the right side of their offensive line and get a solid tackle to put alongside Dominick Puni.
The Bengals get a deal done with Trey Hendrickson and get him a great running mate in Allen, who comes over from Denver.
A versatile pass-catching back will do well in Ben Johnson's offense.
Ebukam returns to San Francisco, where he recorded 9.5 sacks from 2021-22.
The Texans will almost certainly remake their offensive line for the second straight offseason, and this time they get actual proven talents rather than scraps.

2026 Offseason
Coaching Carousel
With how I see the 2025 season playing out, the following teams should be looking for head coaches: New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, and Miami Dolphins.
New York Giants hire Mike McCarthy
Mike McCarthy is taking the 2025 season off, but will have multiple suitors once the offseason begins for teams looking for new head coaches. He's coached two cornerstone franchises in the Packers and Cowboys - he can handle the media attention in New York.
Dallas Cowboys hire Browns HC Kevin Stefanski

QB Tua Tagovailoa to New York Jets
A rare in-division trade at quarterback. We've seen it before when the Eagles traded Donovan McNabb to the then-Washington Redskins, and we see it again in 2026 when the Dolphins ship Tua to the Jets, who will try to Jared Goff-ify him in Tanner Engstrand's offense.
WR Tyreek Hill to Baltimore Ravens
After another disappointing playoff loss, the Ravens go all in and acquire Tyreek Hill to give themselves perhaps the most star-studded offense since the 2007 Patriots.
Free Agency
Full disclosure, I expect the following players to remain with their current teams: T.J. Watt, Trey Smith, Trey Hendrickson, Terry McLaurin, and Mike Evans. Everyone else is fair game.
EDGE Khalil Mack signs with Green Bay Packers
Khalil Mack returns for one more year and joins a Packers team that was one game away from the Super Bowl, hoping he can help put them over the top.
WR Deebo Samuel signs with Houston Texans
Deebo Samuel reunites with DeMeco Ryans, who was on the 49ers staff before taking the Texans' head coaching job, and also gives C.J. Stroud a much-needed dual-threat weapon.

G Wyatt Teller signs with Houston Texans
The Texans will almost certainly remake their offensive line for the second straight offseason, and this time they get actual proven talents rather than scraps.
2026 Mock Draft
- New Orleans Saints: QB Garrett Nussmeier, LSUThe LSU product stays in Louisiana and joins his father, offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, in New Orleans.
- Pittsburgh Steelers (from Giants): QB Drew Allar, Penn StateThe Steelers take a page out of the Buffalo Bills' playbook and trade up not once, but twice for their franchise quarterback and take Allar, whose physical tools are exactly what you want in a modern quarterback.
- Cleveland Browns: QB LaNorris Sellers, South CarolinaThe Browns take another swing at their franchise quarterback and select the dual-threat Sellers.
- Indianapolis Colts: QB Fernando Mendoza, IndianaMendoza is a name that is quickly rising up draft boards, and the Cal transfer will stay in the state of Indiana.
- Seattle Seahawks: WR Jordyn Tyson, Arizona StateAfter trading DK Metcalf and letting Tyler Lockett leave, the Seahawks lack a boundary wideout and take Tyson.
- Miami Dolphins: EDGE T.J. Parker, ClemsonThe Dolphins' defense is slowly going through a rebuild, and they need a fresh young edge rusher to build around.
- New York Jets: WR Denzel Boston, WashingtonThe Jets have zero weapons outside of Garrett Wilson.
- Tennessee Titans: S Caleb Downs, Ohio StateThe Titans finished 23rd in defensive pass DVOA in 2024 and I don't see that unit improving much, if at all in 2025.
- Carolina Panthers: DT Peter Woods, ClemsonCarolina needs all the help they can get on defense, and getting an interior disruptor would be a good step.
- Minnesota Vikings: OT Kadyn Proctor, AlabamaBetter pass protection for J.J. McCarthy will be a plus.
- New York Giants (from Steelers via Cowboys): RB Jeremiyah Love, Notre DameThe Giants will be the Fighting Malik Nabers on offense, and they desperately need someone out of the backfield who can make plays.
- Las Vegas Raiders: WR Eugene Wilson III, FloridaThe Raiders don't have a proven receiver locked up past the 2025 season.
- Arizona Cardinals: QB Cade Klubnik, ClemsonAfter trading Kyler Murray, the Cardinals take Klubnik.
- Denver Broncos: WR Cornell Tate, Ohio StateSimilar to Las Vegas, the Broncos don't have a proven No. 1 on the roster in 2026.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: CB Jermond McCoy, TennesseeKnowing the Buccaneers, they'll probably take another receiver here, but they really should address their defense.
- Chicago Bears: EDGE Keldric Faulk, AuburnThe Bears' defense lacks a high-end pass rusher opposite Montez Sweat.
- Los Angeles Chargers: WR Malakai Lemon, USCIf there is a higher power that cares about Justin Herbert, the Chargers will finally get him some receiver help.
- Jacksonville Jaguars: CB Avieon Terrell, ClemsonA good No. 2 cornerback opposite Tyson Campbell would be advantageous for Jacksonville.
- Atlanta Falcons: C Jake Slaughter, FloridaAtlanta needs a franchise center going forward.
- New England Patriots: EDGE Rueben Bain, MiamiAfter signing Reddick, the Patriots double down and take Bain to give themselves a good duo off the edge.
- Washington Commanders: EDGE Dani Dennis-Sutton, Penn StateOn top of signing Malcolm Koonce, the Commanders draft Dennis-Sutton to give themselves a terrific pass-rushing duo.
- Houston Texans: OT Spencer Fono, UtahHouston continues to revamp their offensive line for a second straight offseason.
- Cincinnati Bengals: CB A.J. Harris, Penn StateCincinnati desperately needs to add talent to their secondary.
- Philadelphia Eagles: S Dillon Thieneman, OregonReed Blankenship is set to be a free agent in 2026, so the Eagles take Thieneman as a potential replacement.
- Dallas Cowboys (from Steelers): LB Anthony Hill, TexasThe Cowboys need a difference-maker to put in the middle of their defense - something they've lacked really since Sean Lee retired.
- San Francisco 49ers: CB Malik Muhammad, TexasShould Renardo Green or Deommodore Lenoir not play up to par, a cornerback could be what the 49ers have their sights set on.
- Baltimore Ravens: DT Zane Durant, Penn StateAn interior defensive lineman who can play defensive end would give the Ravens a versatile potential star on the defensive line.
- Detroit Lions: WR Eric Singleton, AuburnOutside of Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Lions don't have a route-running wideout that scares you.
- Green Bay Packers: CB Chandler Rivers, DukeSimilar to their receiving corps, the Packers don't have a true No. 1 cornerback.
- Kansas City Chiefs: OT Francis Mauigoa, MiamiThe Chiefs taking an offensive tackle in the first round in consecutive years feels like it won't happen, but if they feel like they can put Mauigoa on the right side, then it's certainly possible.
- Los Angeles Rams: CB De'Angelo Ponds, IndianaThe Rams are lacking proven talent at cornerback, which will haunt them in the Super Bowl.
- Las Vegas Raiders (from Bills): QB Nico Iamaleava, UCLAThe Raiders trade up for a quarterback to learn behind Geno Smith and eventually take the reins.
