Adam Caplan reports that the Washington Redskins have released cornerback Leigh Torrence. Torrence signed with the Skins in April, but was cut to make room for waivers pickup Morgan Trent. He was likely just fodder for Special Teams, Mike. Not saying he wouldn't be missed there but if this kid Trent is a better CB...

I didn't think you could use the term "camp fodder" for a guy who was been playing in regular season games for the past 6 or so years. Isn't that term generally used to un-drafted rookies who have no chance of making the team ?

The club is trying to replace Byron Westbrook's special teams contribution and at the same time find a corner that can at least be a backup solution at CB in case there are injuries.

Torrence has the ST skills but as with Westbrook offers little to no help at CB.

The addition of Trent is a move to try and find a corner with some cover ability.

Could be a sign that Brandyn Thompson (or one of the other recently-drafted CBs) is showing good progress in OTAs.
