It was reported on ESPN and I’ve read several reports that former Dolphin’s wildcat formation QB (and former WVU standout) Pat White is set to sign with the Redskins later this week, possibly as soon as today.
The ESPN guys were making a lot more out of the signing than I see in it. They were saying how he fit the RGIII mold better than Cousins does and that he’s now expendable in a trade. Obviously I think that’s jumping the gun quite a bit.
First off White has not played pro ball of any sort in two years. When he did play in Miami he was not very good. His only other pro experience was with the Virginia Destroyers where he lasted a couple of months before getting cut. Compare that with what Cousins was able to do for us just last season and the idea of White just moving into the back-up role sounds even more out there.
I have no issue with bringing the guy in to see what he has left or if he can contribute, I'm just not counting on it being that much.
