It has been 222 days since the Washington Redskins last left the field wearing full battle gear. Life has gone on, yes (just ask the people living along the Gulf Coast), but for fans of this magnificent game it has been a long trek through the wilderness.

Fundamental organizational changes only feed the beast so much. It's time for oversized men with barely-controlled mayhem in mind wearing state-of-the-art armor to start slamming into one another for our entertainment again.

And away we go ...

DONOVAN McNABB - is going to play quarterback for the Washington Redskins tonight. Truth? I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the concept. Hopefully visual confirmation will help.

MIKE SHANAHAN - is going to make weird faces on the sidelines wearing a Redskins shirt tonight.

Cool.

ALBERT HAYNESWORTH - when he puts his hand on the ground tonight, Big Al will have the most-watched backside not wearing hot pants at FedExField. Will he dog it out there, making his coaches and team look bad all over again, or be a soldier and play hard (as much as any NFL vet does in the first preseason game)? Will he interact comfortably with his teammates on the sidelines or stand apart and glower? If he makes a play, will the same crowd that has crushed him all offseason stand and cheer? Hate that this is still a story, but it is...

Nice write up. I have the same concerns about McNabb, Haslett and Haynesworth. As for Mike's faces, I'll take those over that "lost" look Wade Phillips always seems to have. And speaking of Wade Phillips, it's ALWAYS great to see Dallas lose, even if it's just preseason. And I have a feeling Kyle Boller will be starting at some point for the Raiders this year. Sorry Jason.

I'll be working late again tonite and won't be able to watch live, but will be home at around 2am sitting in the dark watching the game while my family sleeps soundly.

Unlike a regular season game, I'll probably check scores along the way....and I figure I'll get a pretty good sense of how things are looking from those.

Driving home last night I heard the QB stats from the Raiders game...JC with 7/13, 49 yards and no scores. Radio said he didn't even come close. Then I saw Boller's, 12/28, 148 yards and 1 score......I think it's safe to say that - as you put it - the more things change, the more they stay the same. Pretty sure that all our observations of JC will be proven correct and that Boller will indeed end up starting at some point. Ugh...

Anyway, exhaustion aside, I couldn't be MORE excited for the start of our Washington Redskins football season.

Using your words, Om...

Bring it on!

McNabb is definately my big concern. I just can't escape the nagging feeling that no team trades an effective QB within their same division. DM looked out of sort for 2 years, IMO, and I'm afraid we haven't moved in the right direction there. Sure hope I'm wrong. I certainly excited for the start of it.

McNabb may very well remain the old out of sorts guy but this a fresh start and there should be added value in that.

If he goes down for a few, then we're basically where we were at before his arrival, Grossman or Campbell.

Well now. Second drive ... offensive rhythm. Run/pass mix. OL holding firm. Pro Bowl QB making plays when they don't.

Touchdown.

We have an NFL quarterback ladies and gentlemen. It's a new day.

First *official* (be it pre-season) TD of the new era. May there be many, many more to come :)

Followed fairly shortly by the second TD. May they also come in bunches on a regular basis. :)

I'll say it again - I really believe sometimes players and teams just get stagnant in a relationship. There's no arguing Mcnabb of the last couple years didn't look like the same guy. Unclear whose fault that was. But with a change of scenery, new teammates, and most importantly, new coaching staff challenging him, I expect to see an invigorated Mcnabb who shows his ability this season.

I wasn't in favor of this move - but I still think he will be a top 10 QB this year for the Redskins.

Loving Torain tonight. Nice burst, good vision. Line looking good too.

Surprisingly, the offense already looks solid to me. Defense needs some work, looks to me like they are thinking too much so far.

But it's early. :)

Easy, B. we're lookin' good but this is the first pre-season game and it's against the Bills.

Just sayin'.

You couldn't have scripted a better first half.

Seriously.

A slightly hesitant start defensively, but since the D Hall pick, it's been pretty much all Redskins. Not spectacular, but solid all around. OL, defense, running backs, receivers, QB's. They're clearly the better prepared, more disciplined team tonight. What that says about the season to come we can't possibly know yet, but you simply could not have asked for a more perfect start to a new era.

Perry Ellis??? Oh Joey T., your skills in the booth never disappoints!

:rotflmao:

Oh my god Joey T's bad. I'm keeping a "live" blog entry to post sometime tomorrow, and about every other entry mentions yet another Theismann facepalm moment. He was never all that great at this, but I don't remember him being quite the embarrassment he's been so far tonight.

The tan looks good though.

That's a little sarcasm mixed with hopefulness serv...

Mcnabb will have a top 10 QB year. I'm willing to bet anyone on that. We are even odds to win at least 1/2 our games this year. Whether we go beyond that depends on a lot of things.

Bet he's doing better than Sam Huff on the radio :)

Brandon "Did You See That!?" Banks.

Wow.

Dang. Banks got redemption.

Many players making it difficult for the coaches come cut down day. It's a good problem to have.
