I still find the WFT's "elite" defense is only so on paper. No pass rush to speak of in that game.

Props to Brother Om who pretty much called this one. Justin Herbert is even better than advertised and was simply too quick, too accurate, and too damn good for our defense to contain. Couple that with some pretty disappointing veteran mistakes and this result was inevitable.

I know we are only a week into the season and I have always been of the mindset that the first half of the season might be rough for this team, but it is discouraging seeing much of same play out each season for this team. Same costly penalties, same inability to make critical stops on key downs, turnovers in the worst possible situations. It is tiresome.

Without having seen the game except what was on the Red Zone, I was curious as to why Rivera punted late in the 4th from the 40. Then I looked back at the box score and saw that there was almost 7 minutes left. The defense can't get 1 stop in 7 minutes? Giving up 20 points against this offense is good, but not being able to get a stop when it counts is not.

Looking forward to 0-2 as the Giants have owned them for a few years now.........

The counterargument is that we were likely not going to get the ball in a better spot field position wise (with that much time left on the clock) at any point later in the ball game while we were in need of a go-ahead score. I would have taken my chances with needing 7 yards on one play. Worst case scenario, you fail to convert and they likely still move downfield, but hopefully you hold them to a field goal. You could argue that we would have saved a minute or two of clock time to work with on offense going this route. It is all a crying over spilled milk argument though. We weren't crisp enough today.

I agree. I was mad at Rivera at first, but with almost 7 minutes left, you expect a stop and better field position than if you go for it, miss, and then get a stop. But I would have gone for it for the very reasons you stated. I'd rather see them be more aggressive when they have the chance to be so. 14 conversions on 3rd down given up on defense and only 16 points on offense isn't a recipe to ever win.

Given the Riverboat Ron reputation, I am surprised he didn't go for it in that spot. My gut was saying go while I watched. I know it counts for nothing, but it seemed like the kind of decision that can spark your offence moving forward had we converted.

The only thing that stopped the Chargers offense from scoring on their long final drive was their decision to humanely kneel out the clock.

I hated not going for it. In the 2nd half, our ability to move the ball was clearly better than our ability to stop them from driving. I get that there were 6 1/2 minutes left, but it just felt like the game was over right there.

I know it's only one game, but I don't know why we're playing Fitz, his play looked stale... uninspired... kind of what I was expecting. All the prime beef we're paying for on D, and Jack is serving hamburger helper... Not looking forward to Thursday night, we stink the place up in prime time more often then not.....

Definitely, Herbert was making all the right decisions and circumstance bailed us out from being blown out by him.

So, to add a little positivity (or at least try!) Maybe a reality check.

I think maybe the result of this game would have been different if Heineke had started from the first snap. With him in the game we were down 13-6 before he came in. With Heine in charge of the offense we outscored them 10-7.
If we hadn't wasted 2 qtrs under Fitz then I think we could have outscored them. C'est la vie.

LA averaged 24 points per game last year, so to hold them to 20 was not an awful showing from our D. I agree that we didn't look like the dominating unit we were supposed to be. Hopefully it's just a matter of gelling. (Those long third down conversions are worrying though!)

Heineke just fits this offense better. Immediately bringing Logan Thomas and Terry McLaurin into the game where they'd been missing previously.

Gibson looks like a bright spot, despite the fumble. It was noticeable that he was way more involved in the offense and McKissic was almost entirely absent.

I honestly still feel quite optimistic.

I also think we forget that we were the underdogs for this one (at least when we placed our bets here in the UK we were listed as 3 point underdogs) and that the Chargers do have an elite pass rush, a really great yound QB and some nice skill players. They're talked about in the same sort of grand expectation terms that we've been hearing about Washington this year. So it's not like we were supposed to be blowing out a bottom-feeder. This was always supposed to be a toss up game, it's just we (I) was hoping the coin would land on our side.

I'm interested to see how the Giants look. (I'm watching it as I type this and Jones is looking pretty sharp!)
The Eagles surprised me against the Falcons. Hurts looks the real deal. So they could be better than advertised.
I also watched the Dallas game, and Prescott looked a little rusty, but put in a great game.
So... we're going to have our work cut out for us winning the division this year I think.

That's fancy talk for the hip came out of it's socket - the ball end of the femur is displaced from the acetabulum (the hip socket). How serious it is depends on a lot of things. But it's a significant injury.

Sounds nasty even if nothing is

How soon before people start talking about Cam to DC?

Not advocating for it by any means, I am just curious as to if that chatter will start up.
