Fans of the Washington Redskins have seen the 76-yard, game clinching Robert Griffin III touchdown gallop against the Vikings last Sunday dozens of times by now. And that is as it should be—the play is already ingrained in Redskins lore.

Here, enjoy it again.

What I want to call attention to, before the team rides that wave off to New York for a chance to measure themselves against the defending champion Giants, is a play that many watching the game, if not most, will have barely noticed at the time. And that I'd wager many of those who did notice have already relegated to the cerebral archives given what happened later that day.

If might set the stage...

What about Scott Brunell? Does he make that play?

Great article, and admittedly I wasn't even thinking about disaster in that situation (possibly means I'm no masochist?). Truly shows how vastly changed the QB landscape is in DC.

Excellent!

It's easy to focus on the WOW! plays Robert has pulled off thus far. But I too have been as impressed by the little things. Things that take most young QB's a couple of years to learn. My favorite being his use of the hard count. He throws the ball, accurately, sidearm, 3 quarters, and over the top. Whatever the situation calls for. Which also seems to be a burgeoning trademark.

He can do, whatever.

With a great young QB, a great young RB, and the Light that is Kai Forbath ;), our offense is on the verge of being scary good.

Grazi, LL.

And as much as the play itself, I've been struck by how easy it was become to "expect" that kind of play from this kid. We've had more offensive highlights in 6 games from that position than in any full season I can recall...and the vast majority are either RG3 making the play or facilitating it.

Been a long trek through the desert chasing mirages. Standing here holding an icy bottle of spring water feels damn good. :)

Merci, Ax.

I trust you noted the link?

Good pick up on that one, Om.

A good QB is not only one who can create attention getting positive things but also avoid, as you said, potential disasters, and make it look like it's a normal thing to do.

In this case there was a positive added-that of putting the Redskins in a position to start a drive.

It's quite often the stuff that doesn't make a highlight reel that matters most.

We've got us a good one at QB.

Here ya go Om. I knew exactly which play you were talking about.

Great pic, El. Just plugged it into the piece.

Thanks!

See Neo for your check. :)

No, thank you.

And um, I usually prefer patties, to links. But in this case, it was links for the win.
Well, ok. But you won't be able to sleep until you do.

Great piece, brother. Add me to list of folks who had forgotten that one. Now that you point it out, I remember it and I remember a quick moment of panic replaced by sudden sensation of relief. Good that you documented it for all to remember.

See Neo for your check. :)

Check my ass. We are strictly cash and carry. Hope you like pennies, El. :)

You know I love you man, but I refuse to check your ass.

So sad. I trusted you and you just pushed my trust out of the way like it wasn't there in your rush to hit the cheap one liner.

*sigh*

What's the world coming to? ;)

I remember that play. Honestly, such 'little' plays occur so often these days that six games in and we are already taking them for granted. It's scary, in a thrilling sort of way.

We have a quarterback, a really really good quarterback. That alone puts us in The Conversation ... every year. It's going to take awhile to get used to that.

Nice, that play was blocked out in my memory by some of the later plays, but your point is well taken.

Oh, and this:

And he makes it looks so routine announcer Dick Stockton's voice doesn't even change making the call.

His voice didn't change, but I'm not sure that's the best metric, considering this is the guy that kept calling him RJIII.

Good point. Just struck me as indicative of how a guy like RG3 can make sparkling plays like that look so routine.

Hey. Tapatalk works. Cool.

Great read as always brudda. I'll tell ya what, while the play was happening, I know I heard a collective "oh ****" from the Redskin nation. Even with how amazing Robert has been, I had him screw, blued, and tattooed in the endzone on that play. Hell, I got out at least three "oh ****'s" out in less then 2 seconds.

Gonna take me a bit longer to get use to a long time dream coming true...

Crazy fingers ?

Who can stop what must arrive now?
Something new is waiting to be born

Dark as the night
You're still by my side
Shining side

Gone are the days we stopped to decide
Where we should go
We just ride

Gone are the broken eyes we saw through in dreams
Gone - both dream and lie

You know what the difference is between an average QB and a great one?

1000 little moments per game.

Often as not, it's the things a QB doesn't do as much as the things he does, that make the difference.

I dont know where Robert Griffin will lead us. But I know I'm on board for the journey. Nice insights Brother Om

This could have easily gone into my "Turning Point in the Game" thread.

And that tells you yet another great indicator of a team with potential, that they would have so many numerous potential "turning points" in the same game to choose from !!
