Big day for GMGM and Capitals yesterday. Thanks to the Varlamov trade, the Caps had both the 11th and 16th overall picks. Due to a run on talented defensemen (8 of the first 10 picks were DMen), Filip Forsberg fell to the Caps at 11, noted by as a top-3 talent in the draft. He will play one more year in Sweden, and then join the team in 2013-2014.
At 16th, the Caps got winger Tom Wilson, a big, physical forward who loves to fight and crash the net. He will bring more physicality to the roster, and could eventually be a replacement for Knuble in the top-6. A guy like this could score a lot of clean-up goals on the same line as Ovechkin.
Finally, the Caps addressed the need for a 2nd-line Center by trading their 2nd round pick and Cody Eakin to the Dallas Stars for Mike Ribeiro. Ribeiro is probably best known for his filthy shootout moves; combined with Matt Hendricks, the Caps may never lose a shootout ever again!
