The Washington Commanders are reportedly "finalizing terms" with edge rusher Von Miller on a one-year contract. Signing Miller fills Washington's most significant need. The Commanders needed help at edge rusher, but appeared content to wait until closer to the regular season. Adding Miller now gives Washington a chance to have him in training camp.

The Commanders know they aren't getting the Von Miller of 2021, when he had a combined 14 sacks for two teams, and helped the Los Angeles Rams to the Super Bowl championship. That doesn't mean they aren't adding significant help. Miller recorded six sacks last season while playing in only 33% of Buffalo's defensive snaps.

Of course, you can't please everyone. When news of Miller's impending signing broke, it was met with mixed reviews across social media. While Washington fans mostly appear pleased with the move, fans of the Commanders' division rivals mocked the move, primarily because of Miller's age.

Of course Von Miller is on the back side of his career. But if he makes a handful of big plays (four? five?) during the season for the Commanders, well, that's four or five more than they'll likely get from anyone else on the edge. Worth taking a flier.
