NFC East Movement As Commanders Sign Super Bowl-Winning Legend Von Miller originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Washington Commanders - up until Wednesday - did not significantly change their defensive line for the better this offseason. And to many, that was a major concern following the free agent departure of Dante Fowler Jr and Jonathan Allen.
Washington's need at the defensive end position may have just been solved a week ahead of training camp, though.
In an Instagram announcement Wednesday night, one-time Super Bowl MVP and likely future Hall of Famer Von Miller announced that he has signed a one-year free-agent deal with the Commanders. Miller recently spent the last three seasons with the Buffalo Bills and recorded 14 sacks with the team that reached the conference championship game last season.
At 36 years old, Miller is into the final years of his legendary career. He has recorded 129.5 sacks, is a three-time first-team All-Pro, an eight-time Pro Bowler, a two-time Super Bowl champion, and a member of the All-Decade team of the 2010s.
Much of Miller's success has come as a member of the Denver Broncos as a second-overall pick in his draft; he won a ring there and with the Rams. He may not be the same star that he once was in Denver; we view the Dallas-area native and former Texas A&M Stadium as a spot player. But Miller still has the kind of veteran presence that could be an immediate help for Washington in an NFC East where D-line pressure, in Philadelphia, Dallas and New York, is high-level.
The Commanders have one of the oldest rosters in football this season. ... and Miller makes them a bit older still. But ... If Washington can find a way to get the last ounce of good football from the iconic Miller, the Commanders might be the third team he wins a Super Bowl with.
