RE - Goaldege and Mike:
You need to understand the difference between me saying something is possible, and that someone else's opinion is as valid as ours, and me voicing what my actual opinion is. To be completely fair it's really hard to tell the exact meaning of one's thoughts through text, and the way I type/word things certainly doesn't help.
I think the team is going to win 10 games. So, I don't think it's possible we only win 2 out of our next 15.
I think the Saints are going to compete for a division or at least a wildcard. So no, I don't think they're going to suck.
But I can't find fault in a person who thinks we're going to have a losing record. We've been a DREADFUL TEAM FOR 20 YEARS and we've been clamoring about how this time it's different EVERY year. Not all of us every year, but a significantly large section of the fan base.
It's not the big bad media out to get the redskins. It's not a vast conspiracy between the NFL, Talking Heads, and Newspaper Reporters to take away our cap space, reinstate saints players the day before, make us open up against the giants on the road every year, have the bye week too early, consistently rank us at the bottom of power rankings ever week, and write about how we're going to only win 4 games, or 3 games, or 0 games, or 6 games.
It's not a conspiracy.
It's people not wanting to stick their necks out for a team taht has SUCKED for 20 years.
SUCKED
We've been DREADFUL.
So pardon me if I'm not going to crucify someone for not being big on the skins when year after year after year after year, going on well before most of these people had their current position, the redskins have (at the end of the season) sucked.
I think they're going to win 10 games. I picked that
before the saints game even started.
I expected these excuses out of the media, not a somewhat knowledgeable fan of our team giving it the "Saints lost the game" spin. You're discounting what the Skins worked extremely hard to accomplish. It's not like the Saints had a major turn over of personal, or change in their system. They have been running this system for a long time now, and Brees has it down to second nature.
Where did I say the saints lost the game? I think the 'comeback' was garbage time antics and stat padding that I'm used to seeing the redskins do. That game was never close from the word go. The redskins dominated for 60 minutes. They allowed it to be a bit too close towards the end, but even then I didn't feel it was close.
Let's talk about an interesting stat. About how 4 out of 12 teams that make the playoffs in year X don't make the playoffs in year X + 1.
The NFL is a week to week league. How team A finished in year X has jack all to do with how that team finishes in year X + 1.
Players on holdouts do terrible the next year (typically). Brees may or may not follow that pattern. I don't know, week 1 loss to the redskins isn't going to tell me the answer.
I'm not making excuses. I've been wearing a grin from ear to ear since about 1:30 pm EST yesterday that I can't seem to get rid of. But I've seen too much over the last 20 years to crown our team champs or turn aside the idea that maybe this year the Saints aren't going to be very good, or that week 1 was more of a fluke for the 2012 season for us or them.
edit: not angry. hope it doesn't seem that way. just trying to be clear in what i'm saying (or trying to say)
