Even the day after yesterday's debacle I'm still stunned. Not angry, not anything but sad and numb. I am and always will be a Redskins fan but for the first time in my 45 years of rooting for the burgundy and gold, my faith is shaken and it's not like we haven't been through tough times before. I'm afraid we're about to fall into a loser's mentality that permeates the organization for years to come unless something is done immediately.
Clearly, in my view, Zorn is over his head and should be shown the exit as soon as we can get a staff in place. There is absolutely no use in keeping him on for the rest of the year or even until the bye. He's lost the team and our record couldn't be hurt by letting him go and allowing the new staff to get a start on next year. I'm willing to bet Dan Snyder is exploring possibilities as I write this. I expect a change within the next 2-3 weeks (if we can get a quality coach to accept the position) as it will take that long to put a staff together. Don't know if anyone will want to take over in the middle of the season or not....that would be tough.
It saddens me to say it but I also think a number of our players, some big names even, aren't giving a 100% and to improve we might have to cut bait on some of them as well. Then, at some key positions we're just not very good, like QB. I like Jason but he is not a winner and never will be. Our rebuilding has to start with a QB. We need some very serious talent evaluation and some some quality talent evaluators and that starts with a professional front office including a full time GM who is empowered to make the personnel decisions. Bruce Allen, come on down.
The uncapped year ahead couldn't provide us with better opportunity to re-make this team and restore our proud heritage. Let's get started sooner rather than later.
