Even the day after yesterday's debacle I'm still stunned. Not angry, not anything but sad and numb. I am and always will be a Redskins fan but for the first time in my 45 years of rooting for the burgundy and gold, my faith is shaken and it's not like we haven't been through tough times before. I'm afraid we're about to fall into a loser's mentality that permeates the organization for years to come unless something is done immediately.

Clearly, in my view, Zorn is over his head and should be shown the exit as soon as we can get a staff in place. There is absolutely no use in keeping him on for the rest of the year or even until the bye. He's lost the team and our record couldn't be hurt by letting him go and allowing the new staff to get a start on next year. I'm willing to bet Dan Snyder is exploring possibilities as I write this. I expect a change within the next 2-3 weeks (if we can get a quality coach to accept the position) as it will take that long to put a staff together. Don't know if anyone will want to take over in the middle of the season or not....that would be tough.

It saddens me to say it but I also think a number of our players, some big names even, aren't giving a 100% and to improve we might have to cut bait on some of them as well. Then, at some key positions we're just not very good, like QB. I like Jason but he is not a winner and never will be. Our rebuilding has to start with a QB. We need some very serious talent evaluation and some some quality talent evaluators and that starts with a professional front office including a full time GM who is empowered to make the personnel decisions. Bruce Allen, come on down.

The uncapped year ahead couldn't provide us with better opportunity to re-make this team and restore our proud heritage. Let's get started sooner rather than later.

As sucky as he is, I'm not for really canning Zorn this year. For one, he's not only the HC, but also the OC and QB coach.

Got anyone to replace him? Unfortunately the answer is "No"

We're stuck this year, unless the danny wants to come down from the box and call plays

He's always wanted to. Hell, at this point it can't hurt

I hate to tell you this, but we've had that mentality for years. The team has won one division title in 17 years. Gibbs squeezed some blood from the stone for a few years, but other than that, we haven't been good for a looooong time.

I think now though it's finally starting to sink in.

I may pull an MSF and venture to say we wont win another game this year:)

Losing 27-0 to Dallas under Spurrier where Trotter admitted the team quit was a pretty bad one too.

Truthfully, I am getting to the point where I am looking forward to seeing Shanahan or another HC with the clout to get rid of Vinny and get the respect of the veterans in the locker room.

It's obvious these guys have tuned out Zorn.

He is now 'staying medium' on his own.

Whoa, whoa, whoa--

You think there's a HC candidate out there that has the clout to get rid of Cerrato? Really??

Amidst their frustration fans everywhere have written this season off. Call me naive, but I am not convinced this team is as bad as everyone is saying. Do you guys remember when Richie Petitbon was coach? 4-12! Let me repeat, 4-12! Then the following year we were 3-13!I know we came off a tough loss yesterday to a Lions team that isn't that good, but not nearly as bad as last year's team. I know the front office is...well, poor!

We do not suck! We are mediocre! Mediocre teams lose games they should win by playing down to the competition. We do not have all cylinders clicking, I say this knowing that even if we did we would not be anything more than mediocre.

I agree with so many who contend that Cerrato has to go and someone like Ron Wolf or the like needs to be brought in and the rebuilding needs to start there. It is going to take a major over haul to get us back to Super Bowl contenders!

But to say this is the worst in 45 years is just too soon to call! And no Sarge, please don't go down the MSF path yet. I like Scott, but you are no MSF!

Interesting thought Pravda. I wonder if the "D" could develop a mancrush on a big-name potential HC, e.g. Cowher, to the point that said potential new HC could stipulate the replacement of Vinny by a real GM before he would accept the job and, more importantly, make it stick?

I can see it getting done. It happened w/ Marty. Marty told Danny that he was taking over football operations and Danny let him. Then we saw Vinny in the broadcast booth and when Marty was gone Vinny was back aboard.

Will it happen again? I sure hope so! I think Bill Cowher is that type. I am not sold on Shanahan or Holmgren, but I wouldn't mind seeing Gruden come in to whip this talent into shape! My only concern w/ Gruden is that he may not have the pull of a Holmgren or Shanahan and he should because he is every bit the coach those two are.

The thing about the Petibone era is that suckiness was going to happen around that time frame anyway. We just lost GIbbs, and had a bunch of old vets on the roster that, while having just won a Super Bowl, were starting to fade. Free agency had just started and we were out of position as far as having a set roster of young vets like Dallas had at the time. A roster shakeup was coming, and I believe it was one of the reasons Gibbs left, including his health. So Casserly chose Norv, which at the time looked like a good hire. Notice I said Casserly (Not the owner) chose Norv. Now, JKC had more football in his pinky than the danny has accumulated in his whole body, so of course he had at least approval of the Norv hire. But regardless, the team was being built the correct way

Fast forward to today. We make big hires regardless of if the player and or coach fits whatever the team identity is supposed to be. Gotta have the flash. Gotta have the bling. Band aids every year. THe next hire will boost us to the Super Bowl

Bull****

We have arrived at the pit of ten years of the amatuer hour, run by danny and his yes puppet vinny. THere is no other reason for where we are. There is no other excuse.

And if we can't get a couple of wins here, in the AAA part of the schedule, we're screwed. The real teams on our schedule will wax our asses. Badly.

I said 7-9 before the season. I think I'll revise that down to 4-12.

Hard to say it, but we suck. We haven't really sucked this badly since the 60's. Forty years. And we just lost to the worst team in the league.

Does that make us the new worst team in the league?

I said 8-8 before the season started and I still say 8-8.

I'm not sure why that should cheer me up.

El, as I recall it was Marty who dumped Vinny-which no doubt left a bad taste in the "D's" mouth, so when Marty got fired-Vinny returned. I'm thinking along a somewhat different line; the prospective new HC tells danny-YOU replace Vinny with a GM and I'll accept the HC job under that GM-rather than asking to take over operations thus placing a buffer between himself and danny and putting danny one step further away from interfering with how the team actually operates,

If Snyder wants to win as bad as he says he does, then I believe a Shanahan, Cowher, or Pete Carroll could have the clout have Vinny fired. If Snyder covets Shanahan, then I see him giving him what he wants so Jerrah doesn't get him.

Snyder isn't going to fire Zorn right now. Knowing Snyder...he is probably thinking that if we continue playing like this we will have a high enough draft pick to get Tebow.

Actually, he's probably cranking "FIRE ZORN" T-Shirts out of his Bangkok child sweat shop right now. He'll sell them at the official "FIRE ZORN" pre-game party (Which you can attend for a mere $49.99 before the game. Meet the cheerleaders! Meet a players helmet! What a DEAL!) Then you can buy the shirts for only $39.99. Never mind it only took a dollar to make them.

Back when I labored under the misconception that we were actually still a mediocre team, I wrote the following haiku for a thread on "another site."

"Who Would Have Thought?"
Old haiku still fit
How can this sick farce recur?
Lilliputian dunce

"Resigned To Fate"
Déjà vu again
Wheels will pop off any day
Snyder still gets paid

"Foregone Conclusion"
Seventh game comes soon
Harsh reality sinks in
No need for tea leaves

"Root Cause"
Why no O-line still?
If not for half-pint hubris
Things could differ so

Back then I was expecting that we'd win all our games against "inferior" competition, even if only by a small margin, at which point reality would set in and we'd probably lose most, if not all the rest of our games.

Now, like you, I'm thinking even those "gimmees" might not be so certain anymore and a 3 or 4 win season is a very likely outcome. It's obvious Zorn is in over his head and that our OL simply won't allow us the ability to run the ball. That's a recipe for disaster. So, to answer your question, I think it's entirely likely that we may be drafting in the top three or five picks next year.

The only wildcard in the deck is whether Blache can get the defense at least semi-fixed. Regardless of the criticism of him, he's a very good DC and could potentially get us to six or seven wins if Zorn stops screwing the pooch against the poor teams we're playing now.

I thought that was what I implied. I agree with you Serv, it needs to be a GM first approach! I was just trying to say it happened once (Dumping Vinny) and we all see where we are after a return to the Cerrato years.

I wouldn't mind seeing Marty come in as the GM and Brian Shottemheimer take over as Head Coach. He has been a valuable assistant for several teams since leaving here.

SO hard to resist the temptation to pile on when you have to face bmore, pittsburgh and dallas fans the monday after an embarassment like that. those super bowl trophies seem old and tarnished right now.

My mistake in interpretation, El-sorry. What I was getting at was that the fact that dumping Vinny was Marty's decision and not Snyder's was what created friction between Marty and "the danny" thus probably contributing to Marty's leaving. My idea is that a prospective HC could, if D.S. wanted him badly enough, force the danny into making what would be an effective public statement of no-confidence in Vinny by dumping him in order to get the new HC on board. I'm hypothesizing that this would make re-hiring Vinny a total PR disaster (as if the danny hasn't created one already) for him-thus removing one possible obstacle to the team's rebuilding-the return of danny's consigliere.

Steeler fans can't have much to say today.
