My oldest son, who is a Chess Player (An International Master), just got his first Grand Master Norm at a tournament in Budapest. To get a Grand Master Norm you have to play in a tournament with a minimum number of rounds, play a minimum number of Grand Masters and perform at a certain level against the Grand Masters and International Masters in the tournament. It takes three such norms within a three year period to become a Grand Master. There are very few tournaments in the US where you can even get a norm, so that is why he was playing in Budapest.
I don’t know if it was a hot night though.
