Yep, starting another thread. Just call me an attention whore.

:)

So my family is moving in less than two weeks, out to Waynesboro, in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. The move puts me closer to school and work, and my wife has been miserable in her job this year so we decided now is as good a time as ever.

Anyway, I hate moving. Haven't done it in ten years, mainly because I hate it with a passion. I hate physically moving things, I hate dealing with utilities, I hate moving.

(don't know if I mentioned it or not, but I hate moving)

So I figured I would create a thread where you can all empathize with me, tell me it will be OK, and most importantly, share any moving tips you have. What have you found to make the experience more bearable? Conversely, are there things you would never do again?

We are hiring movers if that helps. I am concerned about our very nice bed and dining room table. Aside from that, our furniture is pretty standard and replacable.

I've only done 20 or so moves in my military time, so I guess you can say I have a little experience

First, only move what you want to see in your new house. It's an excellent time to lighten the load and get rid of the crap that 's built up

Two, pack your own kitchen stuff. Better yet, have your wife do it and take it with you yourself. That's way, if something gets smashed, it's your fault. Or you won't have some minimum wage idiot put a hand weight on top of a box of glasses, like we had happen

Three, this was 15 years ago, but JKMovers was the best move I ever had in the miltary. Went from N Va to N Carolina and NOTHING broken or scratched. I was amazed.

Fourth, if you have Direct TV, be aware that their awesome "no hassle" move obligates you to another two years to the company

I'm sure I'll come up with more, but I'm taking a break from building a shed so I'll post later

It is done. We still have a lot to unpack, but most everything is in the new place.

Yesterday sucked. Hard.

There were times getting my king-sized storage bed upstairs I thought about your suggestion Ax.

Well, glad you made it to the other side, save the unpacking.

Moving may be one of the universal suckages of life.

Even movers hate it.

I know when me and the Mrs. moved in here, we swore our next move would be to the old folks home, or the morgue.

Cheers to you and yours. Enjoy your new locale.

Thanks Ax. My wife has already said she is never leaving. :)

I CAN swear this. If we do move again, the sofa isn't coming with us. The next occupants will get a gift.
