MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey appears to be counting down the days until June 1 on social media.

But why?

Well, the Dolphinsplan to trade Ramsey after Sunday, June 1, because that date comes with better salary cap implications for the club.

Why is June 1 a key date for Miami Dolphins' Jalen Ramsey trade?

If Ramsey were traded before June 1, the Dolphins would encounter a $12.6 million cap hit for 2025.

But when the Dolphins trade Ramsey after June 1, the Dolphins will actually save $5.9 million against the cap for 2025, according to Spotrac.

Unfortunately in both scenarios, the Dolphins will encounter $29 in dead cap hit.

It's just that trading Ramsey later splits that hit over the next two years.

What is Mike McDaniel saying about Dolphins trading Jalen Ramsey?

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is highly cooperative and respectful of the media and almost always answers questions with transparency and enlightenment.

Not on the Ramsey issue.

It's likely strategic, but McDaniel has dodged all questions about the cornerback.

At the start of organized team activities, McDaniel was asked about Ramsey.

Will Ramsey attend?

"I’m very much interested in the players that I’m coaching on the field today," McDaniel said.

Will is be resolved soon?

"I’m really worried about the players that will be out on the field today," McDaniel.

Does McDaniel feel sad the Ramsey relationship went sideways?

"I'm very excited to coach a football team, that’s not dismissing, but quite honestly, everything is an opportunity cost," McDaniel said. "So I think it is quite honestly irresponsible for me to put down some of the thoughts. The focus is on the players that we’re working now."

Who will replace Jalen Ramsey for the Dolphins?

Cam Smith, Storm Duck, Jason Marshall, Ethan Bonner and Ryan Cooper are among the cornerbacks who will vie to replace Kendall Fuller and Ramsey as cornerback starters for the Dolphins.

Look for general manager Chris Grier to add a veteran corner before the season starts.

Who will trade for Jalen Ramsey?

The Rams, Cowboys and Commanders have all been mentioned as possible trade candidates.

Because Ramsey, 30, makes $24 million a season, that hurts his trade value.

Could Miami net a fourth-round pick? Or a cornerback once drafted in the third or fourth round?

Stay tuned.

Why are the Dolphins trading Jalen Ramsey?

The Dolphins are not saying publicly why they are trading Ramsey.

Miami has suggested it's in the best interest of both parties and not about money.

If it's not about money, they an educated guess would be that neither party is happy with each other.

The Dolphins have not won a playoff game with Ramsey in Miami.

And Ramsey is a talented lone wolf not focused on mentoring or off-field leadership.

Ramsey is also moody, mercurial and at times unpredictable.

"Ramsey, he played very good ball for us, but shoot, relationships are hard," Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver said.
