Lions All-Pro's Wife Has No Words for Sudden Retirement Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
While the Detroit Lions were stunned by the Washington Commanders in the NFL divisional round last season, they enter the 2025 NFL season as one of the strongest teams in the league.
ESPN ranked the Lions as the No. 4 ranked team in their power rankings last month, noting their offensive line as the "most improved position" after they lost guard Kevin Zeitler to the Tennessee Titans in free agency.
However, the Lions suddenly lost the anchor of their offensive line on June 2, as All-Pro center Frank Ragnow announced his decision to retire age 29.
Selected by the Lions in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft, Ragnow, a four-time Pro Bowler, is hanging up his cleats after sevens seasons in Detroit.

Ragnow shared the news on Instagram and wrote in part, "I’ve tried to convince myself that I’m feeling good but I’m not and it’s time to prioritize my health and my families future.
"I have given this team everything I have and I thought I had more to give, but the reality is I simply don’t. I have to listen to my body and this has been one of the hardest decisions of my life.
"The Lions organization has been absolutely incredible throughout this process and I can’t emphasize this enough how grateful I am for this team and all the fans. It was an absolute honor going to battle for you all."
Just two weeks earlier, Ragnow and his wife, Lucy Ragnow, announced they were expecting their second baby together. Lucy posted on Instagram, "so excited for baby sis to join the party this fall 🎀."
After the veteran center and Lucy married in 2021, they welcomed their first child together, Jon Benson, in August 2023. After her husband announced his retirement on Monday, Lucy simply reposted the news on her Instagram Stories without any comment.

Ragnow only missed one game last season due to partially town pectoral in Week 4. He went on to earn Second-Team All-Pro honors for the third consecutive year.
With Ragnow out, the Lions will likely look toward rookie Tate Ratledge, Detroit's 2025 second-round pick, to take over as the starting center.
