It's not just about the uniforms, it's about the uniforms and more.

As someone who has followed the Washington Redskins/Football Team/Commanders since the 1969 season, I found Kevin Sheehan to be genuinely concerned about the Commanders' ownership reintroducing the older uniforms.

Wednesday, Sheehan, hosting his Team 980 radio morning show, correctly described the issue of branding that the Harris group understands. "This is what they could do, and they did it well, from my standpoint. I love this. Watching my team in this uniform will make me think that it's the team I've rooted for my entire life."

"People laugh at things like that. This is what's called 'branding attachment.' We were emotionally detached from the brand on February 2, 2022. And even before that, with the loss of the name in the summer of 2020."

"That is, by the way, a real thing, and (team president) Mark Clouse knows this. He has worked in consumer goods his entire life. He understands branding. He understands emotional attachment and emotional detachment."

"Everything goes into emotional attachment: name, uniform, everything associated with branding, fight songs, etc. And this to me when I saw it I didn't know exactly what we were going to get. I told you last October we were going to get something that resembles the old uniform."

"To me, I couldn't have asked for anything more. I wanted the championship uniforms," expressed the very pleased Sheehan.

The name Redskins and historical uniforms were discarded in 2020 when the team name became the "Washington Football Team" for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

On February 2, 2022, former team president Jason Wright led an effort that resulted in the team adopting the name "Commanders," eliminating the historic throwback uniforms in favor of alternate uniforms. They chose to simply leave the past, including the team colors of burgundy and gold, for new black and gold uniforms, which, as Sheehan accurately described, intentionally detached the fan base from their team name and uniforms.

The Commanders were winners in 2024 (12-5) with two playoff road wins, and now the fan base gets at least something back for which they were proud and have fond memories.

Sheehan is correct, this is another big plus for the Josh Harris ownership group and the long-time invested fans in the fan base.
