It just gets me nuts when I hear anybody, and I mean anybody say..... "the game was not as close as the final score would indicate."

The score doesn't lie ! It doesn't matter if a team dominates you in every aspect of the game, and barely beats you, or even looses, the final score is what it is. Sure, it shows a team may not be able to capitalize on their strong showing and barely win, or a weak team may have just hung on keeping it close in a win.

It just doesn't matter when it comes down to it. The final score is what it is, and last I checked, the count wins and losses first. How do they determine that..... the final score. Not how each team played.... who dominated who...

Who scored more points.... hey, we have a winner !

We lost today, and the game was as close as the score indicated. If it wasn't as close as the score indicated, Philly would have had a lot more points, or we would have had less, period... the end.

The Redskins are a rebuilding team. On that basis HOW the team plays is as important as the spread in the final score.

The fact is the Eagles were up 20-0 in this game and fell asleep with Rex at quarterback and the Redskins were able to put Beck in there for a changeup late in the fourth quarter and produce a touchdown which made the final score look respectable.

But it wasn't a respectable performance.

The Redskins couldn't run the ball at home. They threw 4 interceptions. Maclin had 120 yards receiving.

When you look at the game charts from this contest you will see the outsized advantages the Eagles had in all the critical areas.

And let's not forget the critical question for a rebuilding team - are we getting better?

No, in fact the opposite is the case. We were more productive in the opener than we have been in any of the other contests.

The past 3 weeks the offense has been awful.

16 points against Dallas, 17 against the Rams and 13 against the Eagles.

People can say we were facing top defenses those weeks but I don't believe that to be the case. The Rams are near the bottom of the standings and the Eagles have been giving up 4.9 yards a carry. Only Dallas of the teams we have faced in that stretch has a really solid defense.

Those are the kinds of scoring performances we saw in the final year of Brunell and the first couple of years of Campbell.

And my biggest issue on offense?

We are not taking our lumps with younger players.

Jammal Brown (31), Chester (29), Cooley (29), Moss (32), Gaffney (30), Stallworth (31), Grossman (31), Beck (30).

Right now, I am looking at this unit and hoping they can add to Fred Davis, Roy Helu and Trent Williams and get younger in the next offseason.

Right now the vets we are starting don't look like worldbeaters.

How many games before we see some younger wide receivers on the field?

If we were dominated in this game then we dominated the Rams when we played them. I don't remember anyone saying beating them by one score was all that impressive.

Our offense is lousy. It's been lousy for a long time and that hasn't changed. At least the defense was able to adjust at halftime and put us in a position to get back in the game. And that at least is an improvement over last year.

But that offense ... God I'm sick of watching this team look like crap on offense.

Last year was a waste. We tried to build our team on the fly with old players, most notably at QB, and surprise surprise, it didn't work. That makes this year Year One of our rebuild, and for better or for worse we chose to upgrade the defense first. Frankly, the offense is in limbo until we get a real QB, so performances like this shouldn't come as a huge shock. Beck, Grossman ... six of one, half dozen of the other ...

If a team goes to sleep on you and you score, those points don't count as much ? It's not like when a team is up big, and puts in a back up QB. Could Philly have scored more points today ? Sure, but they didn't, even though they had the opportunities. Because they blew those opportunities, weather it be mistakes on their part or our D stiffening, it seem to be a given that the score should have been made, and the final not as close as it seems.

I don't believe in givens.....

We face a team that is viewed as better then us, and they instantly get the benefit of the doubt for lack of scoring. In the same breath, we slam our team for lack of scoring.

Not me.

There isn't anything anybody can say to make me believe that Philly backed off one bit. I know Reid well enough, and he'll hang 100 points on any team if his team is able to. I know their D didn't say hey, lets let them score a few points just for the hell of it.

The final score indicated that Philly wasn't able to capitalize on superior play against an inferior team. Why it should be viewed as Philly should have had a higher total score is beyond me when they didn't get the said points.

I believe in what was produced, not probabilities....

Three wins were due to the defense playing very well. Two losses were due to the offense playing like a bunch of pigeon pellets.

One thing to look forward to...

The coaches and front office had a great offseason. They devoted most of the resources for defense. The upcoming offseason will be dedicated to offense. We can get some good FAs and draft the franchise QB.

They outscored us 20-3 in the first half because they outplayed us.

We outscored them 10-0 in the second half because we outplayed them-that includes taking advantage of their mistakes just as they took advantage of our mistakes (INTs, anyone?).

Their first half they had planned for us better than we planned for them-the second half we adjusted to them and they couldn't-or didn't compensate. Actually with a 20-3 point margin I doubt if Reid wanted to change much of anything-it was working but Vick got his cage rattled and having to put Young in made it harder to counter-adjust but they had enough of a lead that even with our adjustments we couldn't quite pull it off-we still kept making mistakes too, although their mistakes went up noticeably in the second half. The final score I also think pretty accurately reflected how the game went-if you take into account how much better we played than they did in the second half.

There aren't many teams in the NFL who could turn the ball over four times in a little over a half of football and win the game. I don't care what your game plan is or who the QB is. The team didn't stop playing hard and that's something you like to see. Still, you can't send Rex out there to throw it up for grabs time after time and expect the team to keep playing hard. At some point a coach will lose the team.

I don't know if we should even blame Rex for being exactly what he's always been. What his performance today tell us we didn't already know? The coaches had to know it too, they were just whistling past the graveyard hoping they could hide his deficiencies enough for us to win some ball games.

I don't understand why we weren't looking for our next QB this past off season or in the draft. Perhaps there are details we don't know. Maybe the staff wanted to have most of the other pieces in place when we draft “the guy”. We all know the rebuild was going to take more than a year but to not address QB seemed a bit....odd......arrogant even.

The question becomes what do we do now? The way I see it we only have three options at this stage:

Option 1: Start Rex and hope for the best. That's gotten us to 3-2 so far.

Option 2: We start Beck the rest of the season and we see how he does. Warts and all we'll know where we stand with him once and for all by the end of the season.

Option 3: We try our best to get a QB off another team's bench. Chase Daniel (who was here at one point), Caleb Hanie, Brian Hoyer. Someone mentioned Matt Flynn earlier and Carson Palmer might be an option if we threw enough at the Bengals. I seriously doubt any of these guys could contribute much this season or even if they fit into what Kyle and Mike want a QB to do. That also seems a bit desperate and makes it look like the team didn't have a plan. I doubt we see this happen.

I think we see Beck sooner rather than later.

thats like the people complaigning the refs have it out for your team like this one group was after one game the skins were penalized 6 times for 60 yards the opposyion 12 times for 110 yards yet they still insisted the refs were unfair to the skins

REdskins26, every team fan board I have visited contains posts claiming the refs are biased against their team-every one of them.

It used to upset me but I finally concluded it's just how some people think and there's nothing that can be done about it so I just overlook it.

God I'm sick of watching this team look like crap on offense.

We need size and speed at WR and ShanAllen didn't do enough to address the Oline.

Everyone talks about the steal we got in Hankerson, yet he can't get off the bench when guys like Green and Julio Jones get pt from the get go.

An offense that's so talent starved shouldn't have a supposed "steal" collecting splinters in his hind quarters.

Plus the Redskins haven't had a true franchise QB since Sonny was roaming the sidelines and I am now resigned to the fact that I probably will never see the day when we have an elite talent at that position.

Our team's mode of operation hasn't changed in almost ten years:

Ask the defense to play lights out and hope/pray that the offense can stumble into a score or two.

It's like watching a movie for the umpteenth time.....I know all the lines and how it ends.

It used to upset me but I finally concluded it's just how some people think and there's nothing that can be done about it so I just overlook it.

i look at this way sometimes the calls go are way sometimes they dont then if there is a WTF rule i look in the rulebook to see if its the correct call

I would bet they figured it is easier to luck into wins with a good defense rather than a good offense. They went after the defensive pieces in the off season and chose to build that side of the ball, and did quite well at it. Had they concentrated on offense instead, we would be bitching because we might score points, but would give up loads as well.

Beck is the starter for a while, depending on performance. Not sure we won't see Rex again at some point. Beck will probably light up the Panthers next week, if and only if because they have no film on him. But after 2-3 games, film will exist and the league will catch up.

I think we draft our QB in April, barring an offseason trade for one of the young guys you mentioned (NOT Carson Palmer - he's awful).
