Terry McLaurin was not at the Washington Commanders OTA.
Is this the type of absence of which Commanders fans should be concerned?
There is a bit of history on this one to consider. In the 2022 offseason, McLaurin was negotiating a long-term deal with the newly named "Commanders." McLaurin chose not to attend some of the OTA workouts, but he ended up getting his new contract, and all was well with him.
McLaurin's modus operandi is not to bark, make a lot of noise in an effort to keep everyone in the media keeping his name in the forefront of the Commanders' news. The former third-round draft selection (76 overall) out of Ohio State in 2019 has played hard and consistently produced for the Burgundy and Gold.
Playing for a team that continued to struggle with quarterback consistency, McLaurin continued to thrive, topping 1,000 receiving yards in five consecutive seasons. In 2025, with the arrival of Jayden Daniels to Ashburn, McLaurin enjoyed a season in which he hauled in 82 catches for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Yes, McLaurin is entering the final year of his contract; yet, with no statement on why McLaurin was absent, we simply don't know why the annual stud wide receiver was not working out with his teammates on Wednesday.
Who has the leverage here, the Commanders or McLaurin?
Well, certainly the Commanders want McLaurin back in 2025. No doubt, the Commanders are fully aware they need McLaurin back and are willing to sign McLaurin to a new contract.
However, McLaurin will turn 30 in September. So, how long do you think GM Adam Peters wants the terms of the contract to be for McLaurin? Might this be the issue that is keeping the two sides from already having reached an agreement?
Is this much of a story? Personally, I don't think so at this stage. Until McLaurin or the Commanders elaborate on the status of their negotiations, how can we really know if there is anything other than that McLaurin needed a day because his wife needed him?
We just don't know at this stage, so take a deep breath and don't do more of this until we actually gain more pieces of the puzzle.

#Commanders All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin was not at practice today as offseason workouts continue. He had been a full participant previously and is entering the final year of his contract.
