Has Andy reid cemented his reputation as the best developer of QB's in the NFL now?

I think that a lot of Mcnabbs flaws were covered up well by Reids scheme, its harder to notice that he throws every third pass into the dirt when they threw the ball 65% of the time.

everyone says that its his receivers who killed him and his stats but Ive seen him rocket a 6 yard pass at Cooley who has great hands, ive seen him overthrow a wide open Fred davis when there was NO pressure on him at all. on one play that Armstrong made a beautiful catch in the endzone, mcnabb underthrew him and threw the ball late.

Mcnabb has never been particularly accurate or consistent, he does give you the punchers chance at big plays and he does move his feet well in the pocket most of the time, but he also gets gunshy and throws some seriously stupid passes. not a great fit for what Shanny likes on offence. He has had the same style and mechanics his whole career.

I think Reid is very good at playing to a players strengths, Vick has NEVER looked as good as he has looked this season. He actually makes his progressions now instead of throwing the ball away or running. I credit Reid for that.

Mcnabb will never look as good as he did with the eagles when the eagles catered to his personal strengths and weaknesses, especially if they try to change his mechanics at this stage of the game.

Reid has helped develop several QBs but his job with Mcnabb and now Vick and Kolb has been masterful. I dont think if Mcnabb had been with any other team he would have had much succsess. his only real star year was 2006 when TO made him look very very good.

Hmmm, are you suggesting throwing the ball more often hides the fact that he throws passes in the dirt? That's like someone drinking more to hide the fact that they're an alcoholic.

what Im saying is that because they threw so often Mcnabbs dirtballs didnt hurt them so much, he could still get in a rythym because they threw the ball so often, when he has fewer attempts the issue becomes more glaring.

what he has done is make Mcnabb into a decent QB who looked far better in his system than anywhere else to the point where some less informed fans thought he was an elite qb. He has chnaged Vick from a gimmick QB with a huge arm to an actual QB with mobility and he made Kolb over from a guy who probably shouldnt be starter quality into a decent starter in the NFL. those are all pretty solid.

as for his idiot kids, that has nothing to with coaching QBs. One could argue that looking at pure stats, the man has been very succsessful at hiding deficiencies and coaching guys up, did anyone here think after Vicks years in ATL that he would end up being a good QB (not a gimmick running QB but a guy who makes all the throws and actually makes plays from the pocket?)

Mike, I love you, but Vick is killing it right now. He is displaying a mastery of the QB position right now, with his pocket passing.

the past few games, Vick has actually gone through his progressions and not just looked at one then tucked and run as he has always done in the past. if he continues to do this he could actually be the QB his potential gives him. He has a huge arm but has struggled with touch, he doesnt seem to struggle anymore with that aspect. I agree its pretty early right now but if he keeps it up over a season it could make my argument about Warren Moon being the only superlative black QB very very irrelevant.

Kolb has started a few games and when he is prepared he looks pretty solid for a guy who wasnt really supposed to be much.

Mcnabb was hyped coming out of syrycuse (im assuming you meant to type Mcnabb) but Reid pretty much covered up his inconsistency by letting him throw a pile of passes. plus he didnt ask him to throw slants very often.

I don't think Reid is a developer of QB's as much as he knows how to design plays and schemes that play to the QB's strengths. Vick is certainly more patient now but I'm sure some of that is due to maturity and some of the patience was learned in prison. I'm also sure the coaching is better now than it was in Atlanta. He's also surrounded by more talent. Several factors have made him better......and I REFUSE to give Andy Reid credit for anything other than knowing where all the good restaurants are in Philly.

This. It pertains to Kolb as well. Also, I assume Mr. Mexico better uses the time he took to torture and kill dogs.

Like everybody else, Porky Pig is judged by how many Lombardi's he's hoisted. Which, if my memory serves me, is an equally, fat, zero.

Ryman, just a quick counter to your argument, as much as I hate to give him any credit at all, Belichick is a hell of a QB coach. When Brady went down, Cassel stepped in and didn't miss a beat. Cassel is now winning some games in KC, but acing watched a couple of those games, he ain't a great QB.

Reid is a good QB coach/developer. Very good even. But a lot of Vick's Renaissance has come from a personal rededication to the game, after the courts decid he shouldn't kill dogs anymore.

Besides which, I just can't say Reid is a great coach bc of his clock management issues. How many SBs might they have won if he had some sort of assistant on the sidelines with him during games to beat him with a club when he was about to do something stupid?

whoah Goaldeje, I never said Reid was a fantastic head coach, but I do think he is a solid OC and a very good developer of of Qb's. He was an OC back in the day with favre (im pretty sure) and he has done a great job with 3 flawed qbs. Vick was a gimmick QB in ATL, Mcnabb was a guy who had serious flaws yet looked elite in 2006 and a bit better than journeyman other seasons and Kolb is a weak armed guy who looks solid in Phillies scheme when prepared. I agree Bellichick is very good as well, but methinks taping other teams signals may have helped a lot there.
