Game Notes: Washington Redskins vs. Baltimore Ravens

• The Redskins improved to 7-6 on the season with a 31-28 come-from-behind overtime win against the Baltimore Ravens in front of an announced crowd of 81,178 people at FedExField on Sunday.
• The win is the Redskins’ fourth consecutive and gives the team its first four-game winning streak since Weeks 2-5 of the 2008 season.
• With a 7-6 record, the Redskins are now above .500 after 13 games for the first time since Week 16 of the 2008 season.
• Head Coach Mike Shanahan now has 172 combined regular season and postseason victories as an NFL head coach, pushing him past Redskins legend Joe Gibbs for sole possession of 12th all-time in NFL history.
• The Redskins improved to 23-14-1 all-time in overtime games and earned their first overtime victory since Dec. 26, 2010 (20-17 at Jacksonville).
• Rookie quarterback Kirk Cousins led an eight-point fourth-quarter comeback, making the Redskins the first team since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to have two different rookie quarterbacks lead fourth-quarter comeback wins in the same season.
• Cousins converted the game-tying two-point conversion on a quarterback draw, marking the first time in team history that the Redskins had scored a two-point conversion to send a game to overtime.
• In overtime, kicker Kai Forbath hit his first career game-winning field goal, converting on a 34-yard attempt. It was the first game-winning kick for the Redskins since Week 4 at Tampa Bay (Billy Cundiff).
• The victory snapped the Ravens’ league-high 15 game winning streak in games following a loss.
• The Redskins rushed for 172 yards, giving Washington an NFL-high 12 games with 100 or more rushing yards this season. This is the most for the Redskins in a season since posting 13 games of 100-plus rushing yards in 2006.
• Washington has now rushed for 150 yards or more in 10 games this season. Entering Sunday, no other NFL team had more than six. The Redskins are one 150-yard game shy of matching their team record for 150-yard rushing games in a season (11, set in 1983).
• The Redskins scored 31 points, the team’s sixth 30-point output this season. This marks the first time Washington has scored 30 or more points six times in a season since 1996 (six).
• Running back Alfred Morris finished the game with 23 carries for 122 yards with a touchdown.
• The 100-yard rushing game was Morris’ sixth of the season, marking the most 100-yard rushing games in a season by a Redskin since 2008 (Clinton Portis – six). The last 12 players to rush for 100 yards in a game for the Redskins have all been rookies.
• Morris (1,228) and Griffin III (748) have combined for 1,976 rushing yards, the most by rookies on any team since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.
• Morris opened the game with a 29-yard run, his longest run since registering a 30-yard run in the second quarter of the team’s Week 7 game at New York.
• Washington capped a 10-play, 80-yard opening drive in 5:20 with a four-yard touchdown pass from Griffin III to receiver Joshua Morgan. It was the second time this season that the Redskins have scored a touchdown on the team’s opening offensive possession (Week 11 vs. Philadelphia).
• The drive was the 17th scoring drive of 10 plays or more for Washington this season.
• The touchdown was Morgan’s 10th receiving touchdown of his career and his first receiving touchdown as a Redskin. It was his second total touchdown with Washington, joining his fumble recovery touchdown from a week ago.
• The touchdown pass was the 18th of the season for Griffin III.
• Morris received his 236th carry of the season later in the first quarter, breaking the Redskins’ record for rushing attempts in a rookie season. The previous record was held by Mike Thomas, who had 235 carries in 1975.
• Later in the drive, Morris scored his seventh rushing touchdown of the season with a one-yard touchdown run.
• Cornerback Richard Crawford registered his first career punt return in the first quarter, returning it 20 yards.
• The Redskins accumulated 186 yards of offense in the first quarter, the most by any NFL team in the first quarter of a game this season. It was the most first-quarter yardage gained by the Redskins since gaining 189 yards at Chicago in Week 10 of the 1997 season.
• The 14-point first quarter marks the second time this season the Redskins have scored 14 points in the opening frame (Week 2 at St. Louis). This marks the first time the Redskins have had multiple 14-point first quarters in a season since 2005 (Weeks 7 and 16 in 2005).
• Fullback Darrel Young had a career-long 28-yard reception in the second quarter.
• In the third quarter, linebacker Rob Jackson registered his first forced fumble of the season, the second of his career. Jackson recovered the strip-sack of Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco, the first fumble recovery of his career.
• On the resulting drive, kicker Kai Forbath converted a 48-yard field goal attempt to remain temporarily move to 12-for-12 for his career.
• Linebacker London Fletcher registered his third interception of the season, tying his most as a member of the Redskins (three, set in his first season with the Redskins in 2007).
• The interception was Fletcher’s 21st of his career. He is one of three active NFL linebackers with 20 or more interceptions (Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher).
• Fletcher was playing in his 237th consecutive game, tied for the longest active streak in the NFL.
• Forbath hit a 49-yard field goal on the ensuing drive, temporarily moving to 13-for-13 on his career.
• The Redskins scored six points off turnovers, giving them 82 points off turnovers this season. The Redskins had a total of 43 points off turnovers in 16 games last season.
• Safety Jordan Pugh registered the first sack of his career on the first play of the fourth quarter, dropping Flacco for a loss of nine yards.
• The Redskins’ tied the game on a 13-play, 85-yard drive that ended when Cousins found wide receiver Pierre Garçon for an 11-yard touchdown pass with 29 seconds remaining in regulation.
• The touchdown pass was the second of Cousins’ career and his first since Week 5 vs. Atlanta. Garçon’s touchdown reception was the 20th of his career and his fourth of the season.
• In overtime, Crawford returned a punt 64 yards to set up the eventual game-winning kick.
• Crawford finished the game with three punt return yards for 100 yards, the most punt return yards by a Redskin since Antwaan Randle El on Oct. 22, 2006 (111 yards).
• The 64-yard return was the longest punt return by the Redskins since Santana Moss’ 80-yard punt return for touchdown at Detroit on Oct. 26, 2008, a span of 67 games.
• After three rushes, Forbath hit the 34-yard game winner, improving him to 14-for-14 for his career. He now stands two field goals shy of matching Garrett Hartley’s NFL record for consecutive field goals made to start a career.
• The Redskins extended their consecutive home sellout streak to an NFL-high 375, including postseason games. The team has sold out all 157 preseason, regular season and postseason games at FedExField.
• The victory is Washington’s fourth of the season at home, the most by the team since winning four home games in 2008.
• The win is the Redskins’ first against an AFC opponent this season and snaps a six-game losing streak against AFC opponents dating back to the team’s last AFC win in Week 16 of the 2010 season (at Jacksonville, 20-17).
• The Redskins’ seven wins this season are the highest total of the Shanahan era.

"The last 12 players to rush for 100 yards in a game for the Redskins have all been rookies."

Nuh uh.

But seriously, there's a lot of perspective there on just how much things have changed for the better. I'm even giddier for having read that.

Alfred has a shot at the Redskins rushing record. Not just the rookie record (he has that one already) - The. Actual. Record.

i think the terminology is a little weird here, i think it means "the last 12 100 yard rushing games (not players) have been done by rookies"

That would be true if im not mistaken

We put up 31 against the Ravens today and the offense was a bit "off". Wow - times have surely changed.

For the better. :)

I queried Pro Football Reference on the last 11 games-prior to today-in which somebody rushed for 100 yards or more.

All rookies.

@ESPNStatsInfo: (Elias) Redskins got TD passes from 2 rookie QB today (RGIII + Cousins)- First team to have 2 rookie QB throw TD in game since 1965 Cowboys

Yeah and it was the first time 2 rookie QB's on the same team led their team to a 4th quarter win in the same season...

The most impressive stat to me, was that we were the 1st team in about 3 or 4 years to hand the Ravens their 2nd straight loss.

Yeah, the terminology was a bit off. THe way it was written made it sound like people, but it meant the last 12 100-yard rushing games.
