With the new site (which I can't stress enough, remains a work in progress!) we have quite a bit of new functionality. We want to make sure everyone's aware of what the new site has to offer, especially since most of the additions came directly because you told us what you wanted, and we tried to listen to and act on your feedback
One of the features most asked for pre-upgrade was some kind of a 'Likes' system. Of course, many also wanted a 'Dislike', 'Consensus Ban', or 'Eff You' variant on the Likes concept, but we decided those things weren't consistent with the spirit of the place we're trying to build. In other words, we're firm believers in what Mom taught most of us, 'if you don't have anything nice to say...'
You actually have multiple options when it comes to 'Liking' a post, thread, blog, or article. First of all, embedded in the vBulletin 4.2.1 functionality is the ability to use the Facebook 'Like' button to post a 'Like' on your Facebook wall for any thread, blog entry, or homepage article on the site. We really encourage you to use this feature, as not only does it show support for our great member-generated content here (we have the best Redskins content on the web, and it's not close), but also because it puts the site 'out there' for potential future members to see.
In addition to the default Facebook 'Likes' functionality, we've installed an internl 'Like' and 'Share' system on BGO. This modification gives you what you've been asking for for a long time - the ability to immediately give a fellow member positive feedback on an individual post. 'Liking' a post will put up an identifier showing you liked the post, add to a tally at the top of the thread that can be clicked on to show everyone's 'Likes' within that thread. We even track how many of YOUR posts have been 'Liked' by fellow members in your post-bit. That's fancy internet webmaster talk for the boxes below your username within threads And an added feature we got along with our 'Likes' modification is a 'Share' feature.
With a click of the 'Share' link, you can post up any post on the site to a multitude of social networking sites. Hover over the 'Share' link, and you'll see options to post up content on Delicious, Digg, Twitter, Technorati, Spurl, Facebook, Wong, and Reddit. If there are other social networking sites you'd like to have the option to 'share' with, just let us know.
Finally, Anytime you happen upon a page on the site that you'd like to share, you can click on the green 'Share This Page' icon in the BGO Chatbar at the bottom of your screen and share the page link on a number of other social networking sites.
You asked. We listened. We think you are going to love our 'Likes' and 'Share' system on the new BGO. Let us hear from you if there's anything we can do to improve them!
By the way - if you love this site, want it to be here for the long-term, and are proud to be a member, then help us start promoting it with some of these features! We're the best kept secret on the net.
