Defensive Coordinator / Staff search begins

Graham has no connections with DQ which is interesting. He's had some good defenses with the Raiders and Giants. Ulbrich would be a dream hire and maybe still might be if he's allowed to interview and does so here. Schwartz, if allowed to interview would be the prize though. I think.

If Blough is indeed the OC hire, they need to do whatever they can to get this to be a top 10 defense next year with a big piece of that being the DC hire. Blough gives you a low floor with a high ceiling on offense and he will undoubtedly have growing pains as a first time signal caller. This may need to be a defense first team to at least start the season

I think it's way too soon to start hand wringing over "if it's Blough..." the coaching hiring cycle is barely getting started

I think it’s important for the people making decisions to have a plan for every possible scenario. So I hope they’re planning for that possibility if they are going to interview Blough.

And it’s not necessarily handwringing to be talking about potential situations that may arise.

But I agree - if people are genuinely upset, need to take a step back and let things play out.

While I mostly agree I will feel better when we start interviewing some of the acknowledged TOP candidates for an OC position in the NFL.

Some of these other guys seem like fringe/edge candidates to bring in while we are waiting for things to break on someone with more gravitas in the league.

I hear what you are saying, but ultimately, the timeline is dictated by the market and how quickly other teams start making decisions. I'm sure there is a context where we are going to have to make a decision about Blough or we lose him to someone else who is ready to make him an offer. If he is Detroit's #1 candidate, I'd bet we don't have all that much time before we'd have to make a decision on him.

This isn't really me advocating for him as the OC.... just challenging the fact that we have a bunch of time to mull over our options.

They are minorities. They have now checked the box on 2 minority interviews. Terrell is possible PGC here and they may try to get Wells as OL coach

Only way Commanders get Wells is if it's a promo like OC. I don't see any other way. OL is not a upward move but essentially a lateral one.

So it appears Morris and Ulbrich have the flexibility to look at other opportunities after Blank refused to guarantee their deals for 2026.
