Deadspin: Manti Te'o's Dead Girflriend Was a Hoax

This story is truly bizarre - I'll admit, as someone who doesn't follow college football that closely, this is the first I've heard of the story of Manti's girlfriend & grandmother dying within 6 hours of eachother, and it propelling him to his Heismann-caliber season. Now, its all coming out that this was completely fraudulent.

Manti & Notre Dame is saying that Te'o was the victim of a cruel hoax, but that doesn't completely add up. Its just really strange...

Some good photoshops coming out of it though!

This is the first I've heard of any of this too. Totally bizarre.

Without knowing anything it sounds to me like the kid made it up. I'm sure we'll find out sooner or later.

... not that I really care.

And the draft stock slips! Maybe he will be available in UDFA like Vontaze Burfict, whom Ryman and I were suggesting we take a flyer on in the 7th round. ;)

This is the most bizarre story I've heard in a while. They say now "Catfishing" is something that happens with some regular occurance? Weird.

OK, been reading up "catfishing" some, and nevermind. Duh. If you have relationships with people online you never meet, then I would imagine this happening quite often.

So there is no Goaldeje, he is a Catfish?

The more I think about it, the more it just sounds like a pathological liar who got caught in his web of bullcrap. I don't think it hurts his draft stock, because he definitely didn't make up the season he had. Maybe some teams will be scared away, but nobody will be scared enough to let him slip out of the first round.

Just in case anyone's wondering, they're real, and they're spectacular.

In case you guys were wondering...me, Boone and Om are all fictitious people created solely for the purpose of being pretend Redskin fans. :paranoid:

Personally, I find the intensive coverage of this embarassing. Mike Greenberg (who I like less and less over time) was just beside himself salivating all over the drama aspect of this. Setting aside that this has zero to do with sports to begin with, who the hell cares one way or the other.

It's getting so where even supposedly traditional sports reporting outlets are more National Enquirer than anything else. I'm pretty tired of it.

then who is that outside of my window at night telling me I'm a good boy?

Some guy who likes to look at your girlfriend and figures flattering you will keep you from getting angry?

In general I agree with you.

This story has a nice silver lining though. It's caused the BS Armstrong/oprah interview that they've been milking for a week to become a very, very distance 2nd in the lineup in the news.

Which is awesome - just my opinion though.
