There are about 4 or 5 threads right now buzzing about moving on from our OC, very quickly we're going to need to start talking about our options, reporting on visits / interviews... etc.

Let's keep this thread clear of discussing previous Coordinators / Staff unless it's a schematic / philosophical comparison.

The question for me is whether Washington is reacting to Kliff Kingsbury’s departure, or if this was already anticipated with plans in place and moves already underway behind the scenes.

They definitely have a list they are working through. Grant revealed some of the names.

Daboll is the one realistic name that is at Kliff’s tier as an offensive mind. He’s been available for several weeks. Wouldn’t shock me if they have had conversations

Well Daboll wouldn't be getting a HC opportunity any time soon.

Yeah at least he will be here for a few seasons. If we hired Stefanski, good chance he is one and done here and gets hired elsewhere

Connecting the dots here:
  • Johnson goes with Kingsbury. Neither are Shanny Products
  • Remaining still: Lynn, and Brian Johnson. Johnson served under Shane Steichen, who served as OC under Anthony Lynn with the Chargers
  • Keim mentioned more cuts, I wonder if Engram goes in favor of Welker, who is a Shanny disciple as well, who served as WR coach under Kyle and Mike McDaniels.
  • If that plays out, it would indicate they know who they want.

Dude’s all over DC radio anyway….

We also fired the OL coach.

The unit as a whole was good in pass-protection, but consistently struggled in run-blocking. Part of this is the sudden but awkward development of Chris Paul. Dominant pass protector, but league worst run blocker.

I'm not sure how much of that was positive and negative was Chris Paul, the OL coach, or Kliff Kingsbury. I mean, running up the middle with a RB that isn't good at it, or a fragile QB, behind an OL that also isn't good at power runs just seemed foolish yet Kliff loved that playcall. Maybe some different run concepts would have moved Paul from league worst to just poor.

So who are the candidates to replace Kliff? Somebody mentioned Mike Denbrock, Jayden’s LSU OC, but he has no pro experience. Klint Kubiak is a big name, but he’ll probably get a head coaching gig. I know Mike McDaniel was a hot name, but he is keeping his job in Miami. I see you guys talking Brian Daboll, but it’s hard to feel good about a guy who just got canned for going 11-33 in his last three seasons as head coach. Who else?

Honestly I have a bad feeling about all this. JD and KK had good chemistry, I could easily see this change derailing his progress for a second consecutive year.

But I admittedly don’t know much about who might be available, so I’ll try keep an open mind until we see the plan.
