Sometimes change is good. I never really got the praise going around the league for this man. I have heard announcers call him "highly respected" in several games over the past few years making me think they all read this from the same place?

With him gone, Banks will be gone (long overdue) and maybe someone can come in and get a little more going inbetween the couple of excellent role players we have.

Maybe Smith just couldn't deal with our youth movement? Maybe he was like Bugel and needed HIS vet guys... I dunno. This has to be a good thing.

I believe our fans have just seen too much. From the Randle El punt returns, to 5 blocked FGs last season, to the blocked punts this year. And no great returner during his career here.

It's like you rang a bell. This is something you will all look back on and realize how good he actually was. And I will be right here bumping this thread every time to remind you. You have all spent several seasons blaming him for players making idiot mistakes. He can't play the game for them, and we have been a team loaded with dumbass sub-par players for his entire tenure.

He can't play the game for them, and we have been a team loaded with dumbass sub-par players for his entire tenure.

Players' execution is in large part a reflection on their coach(es).
We can't use the "coach can't play the game for them" excuse every time a coach's unit repeatedly fails. If that were the case, why bother with coaches at all, and just let the players do their thing. Eventually, a coach has to be held accountable.
When Norv was here, many fans for a long time used that same defense of him, that he's not the one executing. But what has Norv done in the 15 or so years, since then ?

If we had a different lineup every year on ST and still ****ed up on the regular, I could see the Danny Smith hate. But we almost always had the same group of ****ty ass players. And when we added players, it was always some garbage player like Brandon banks that wouldn't make the PS on other teams. You can not dominate with sub-par talent, no coach can.

The special teams have been up and down. Smith was in favor of keeping Gano while Shanahan overruled him and we ended up with 17/18 from Kai Forbath.

Shanahan also had a hand in Niles Paul getting back on returns and he looked good there at the end of the season.

Smith and Hilliard are replaceable.
