Cowboys playoff push takes back seat to trajedy

Just read that Dallas Cowboy Linebacker Jerry Brown was killed this morning in an auto accident where nose tackle Josh Brent was driving, (allegedly while intoxicated.)

This has been a terrible week for the NFL.

Sending nothing but positive thoughts and prayers to the family, friends and teammates of these two young men. And I hope the preliminary reports labeling this as "intoxicated manslaughter" are false for that would just make his death all the more senseless.

Cowboys’ Jerry Brown dead, teammate Josh Brent charged

Cowboys linebacker Jerry Brown has died in an early morning car crash, and Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in Brown’s death.

The police department in Irving, Texas, has confirmed that Brown died in a crash early this morning and Brent (whose legal name is Josh Price-Brent) was charged.

“Officers at the scene believed alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash; therefore, Price-Brent was asked to perform field sobriety tests,” a statement from the Irving Police Department said. “Based on the results of the tests, along with the officer’s observations and conversations with Price-Brent, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to an area hospital for a mandatory blood draw. Once it was learned that the passenger of his vehicle had died as a result of the crash, Price-Brent was booked into the Irving City Jail on one count of Intoxication Manslaughter.”

Brown and Brent were friends and teammates at Illinois before becoming teammates again with the Cowboys. Brown was 25.

Assuming the charge is appropriate and he was indeed intoxicated....

Grown men with tons of money driving around late at night drunk.

At least they didn't kill an innocent bystander.

Brown and Brent were teammates at Illinois where Brent also had a history with alcohol. So much so, in fact, the he was kicked off the team for his senior year due to a DUI and entered the supplemental draft where he was taken by the Cowboys.

Either Brown was just as drunk as Brent, or drunker, or he was stupid for letting him drive.

Wow, always hate hearing about drunk driving fatalities. It's just too damn easy to have a plan in place BEFORE you even go out to let this stuff happen. I just don't get it.

Turns out Josh Brent's BAC was more than twice the legal limit when he got behind the wheel. We should be thankful it was only a teammate that suffered, and no innocent bystanders. What a shame.
