Commanders Make Terry McLaurin Announcement Amid Training Camp Holdout originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

It’s no secret that Terry McLaurin is unhappy with his contract situation with the Washington Commanders.

The 29-year-old wide receiver is coming off one of the best seasons of his career in which he caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns, and he believes that’s earned him a sizeable pay raise.

Heading into the final year of his three-year, $68 million contract, McLaurin, who’s the 16th-highest paid WR in the NFL, carries a $25.5 million cap hit in 2025.

But according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, McLaurin looking for a deal that gets him closer to the range of the top-paid WRs in the league like Miami’s Tyreek Hill, Detroit’s Amon-Ra St. Brown, and San Francisco’s Brandon Aiyuk, who all make $30 million per year.

Spotrac lists McLaurin’s market value at $31.1 million per year, and it projects him to land a $93.17 million contract extension.

As McLaurin and the Commanders hash out a new contract, the two-time Pro Bowler didn’t show up for the team’s first day of training camp as he begins his official holdout. On Wednesday, the Commanders made an official announcement about McLaurin’s status.

“We have made the following roster moves: Placed G Sam Cosmi on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List, Placed WR Terry McLaurin on the Reserve/Did Not Report List,” the team wrote on X.

McLaurin’s absence reinforces what he told reporters last week about not feeling valued by the Commanders front office, stating “I have to stand on my worth and my value. … Unfortunately, you can’t force somebody to see that value.”

Commanders general manager Adam Peters told reporters on Tuesday the team is still actively trying to find a middle ground with McLaurin.

“Without a doubt, I think everybody in this building values Terry very much,” Peters said. “… In terms of where we're at, we've had conversations recently, and we'll look to have some more conversations. And we're going to do everything we can in order to get a deal done.”

Players on the reserve/did not report list are ones who fail to report to training camp by their respective team’s specified date, and don’t count against the 90-man roster limit for camp.

Failure to report can result in fines and recovery of signing bonuses—teams can fine players as much as $30,000 per day—and if a player holds out past Aug. 9, he loses an accrued season needed to obtain certain league benefits.
