Commanders Address Controversial Terry McLaurin Holdout originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
If the Washington Commanders planned to call Terry McLaurin's bluff before training camp, they now must rethink.
The All-Pro wide receiver for Washington, was a no-show during the arrival portion of training camp. 89 players showed up at the Commanders' facility today to begin training camp.
The lone absence was their best offensive weapon outside of quarterback Jayden Daniels.
McLaurin has been clear that he wants to be paid as one of the best receivers in football. After his career year in 2024, it's hard to argue with that stance. McLaurin caught 13 touchdown passes and helped Washington reach the NFC Championship game for the first time in three decades.
For him to not get the kind of deal he is looking for has rightfully pissed him off.
Even if general manager Adam Peters tried to pour cold water on the holdout on Tuesday.
“First, without a doubt, I think everybody in this building values Terry very much,” Peters said. “We knew that coming in and we know that even more after spending a year with him. We’ve had conversations recently and we’re looking to have more conversations and we’re going to do everything we can to get a deal done.”
Washington needs McLaurin if they are to compete for a Super Bowl this year.
The fact that they are playing hardball with the veteran is perplexing to say the least.
While there is time before the start of the regular season for McLaurin to get the kind of contract he wants, this holdout will do Washington no favors to start.
