This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke to Super Bowl champion and Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz.

In his interview with Easton Jr., Ertz, speaking on behalf of global health leader Abbott and Real Madrid's "Abbott Dream Team" campaign, discussed the partnership and his trust in Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes' college head coach and current Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.

"I spoke to the guys before the tryout today. We've been in the DMV for a little over a year. I can feel the passion and love for the Washington Commanders as a team from the community." said Ertz, "I love being a part of being able to go into the community and see the people and be out there with a sport that I'm not necessarily familiar with, how they practice, how they train, so for me to be out there and see another sport with young men who have goals of taking the games to the next level was extremely fun."

There are 11 spots available on the Abbott Dream Team, and tryouts are open to all young people between the ages of 18 and 19. Team members will be selected based on their demonstrated skills, values, and determination—both on and off the pitch. All tryout participants will engage in intensive soccer training sessions led by Real Madrid coaches and receive health and nutrition education from Abbott. Each attendee will leave with an Abbott health toolkit, allowing them to share their learnings and encourage healthy behaviors within their communities.

Ertz played for Kingsbury when he was head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, helping to rejuvenate his career after being traded by the Philadelphia Eagles.

"I mean, Kliff is a guy that people view as this cool guy; he's on these vacations and whatnot. Kliff is a guy who loves the game. He's the first one in; people say the first one and the last one out. Kliff Kingsbury is literally the first one, but he's in there by 3 am on Sundays, watching film, grinding, and trying to put his players in positions to be successful," said Ertz. "I'm a guy who loves the process and loves to grind as well. I think our mutual respect and admiration for each other are based on trying to be our best version of ourselves every day. He knows I'm doing everything I can to get open for him or block whoever he needs me to block, and I'm doing everything I can to be successful on that play for that team. I love playing for him. He's not going to ask me to do anything I don't have 100% confidence in doing. It's the same for every player. He's going to put players in positions to be successful. He's not going to say people can't do this or that. I need someone else. He's going to maximize everyone's skill set, and, shockingly, that's not the mentality of all coaches, but Kliff takes it to another level."

Kingsbury notably coached Mahomes while at Texas Tech from 2014 to 2016.
