Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin wants a contract extension. Recently, he's expressed frustration with the process as the two sides attempt to come to an agreement. McLaurin wants to stay, and the Commanders want to keep him, but the two sides still appear to be far apart.

Despite those frustrations, McLaurin showed up at training camp this week. He won't practice yet, having been placed on the PUP list with an ankle injury, but he's in the building and working with his teammates to get back on the field. After practice today, media members were able to ask McLaurin questions, but he offered only one answer:

"We're just taking it day by day," McLaurin says, visibly frustrated. Although it's unclear whether his frustration is with the microphones in his face, the extension process, or the ankle injury, it's likely a combination of all three.

While some view his return to the team as a PR stunt with a fake injury and that he's putting his own needs before the team, McLaurin is a vital part of the Commanders' offense. Fans and analysts can believe and say what they want, but the only people who know what is truly going on are inside the Commanders' organization.

Outside of the contract talks, McLaurin's presence in the locker room should come as a relief. His presence suggests that he wants to stay with the organization and is invested in the team's future. If he didn't, he could be sitting on a beach somewhere like Trey Hendrickson.

But that's not what he did, and if you think this move is about prioritizing himself over his team, you are looking at it from the wrong angle.
