The Chicago Bears had an impactful offseason that has the team positioned to be successful for the long-term future.
It started with the hiring of head coach Ben Johnson, who was widely regarded as the top coaching candidate in the cycle. It continued with the shoring up of the interior offensive line, including the trades for guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, as well as the free-agent addition of center Drew Dalman. There were a number of other impactful additions, including defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo and a rookie class featuring tight end Colston Loveland and wide receiver Luther Burden III.
CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin named the best offseason move by each NFC team, and while Chicago had some impactful additions, nothing else came close to the hiring of Johnson as head coach.
"The Bears' offensive line investments are a close second here; Joe Thuney and Drew Dalman arriving to take over the interior could do wonders for Caleb Williams' pocket poise," Benjamin wrote. "Johnson is the big fish, though, and his endeavor to both unlock Williams' backyard-style playmaking while keeping the former No. 1 pick in check will be paramount to Chicago's dreams of a true turnaround."
Make no mistake, Johnson was brought to Chicago to develop quarterback Caleb Williams and maximize his potenital. But he's also tasked with turning around a Bears franchise that hasn't been consistent contenders. It's only the offseason, but Johnson's impact is already being felt in the locker room, and the hope is the results on the field follow suit.
