REDSKINS PLACE BUCHANON ON RESERVE/INJURED LIST; SIGN THOMPSON TO ACTIVE ROSTER

ASHBURN, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have placed cornerback Phillip Buchanon on the Reserve/Injured list and added cornerback Brandyn Thompson to their 53-man roster.
Buchanon (5-11, 190) was in his 10th NFL season and his second with the Redskins. Buchanon has played in 123 career NFL games, including two during the 2011 season.
Thompson (5-10, 177) appeared in two games in 2011. Thompson saw action at cornerback in the Redskins’ Week 2 win against Arizona, and he appeared on special teams in Washington’s Week 3 game against Dallas.
Thompson was selected by the Redskins in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft last April after having appeared in 49 games at Boise State. For his college career, he amassed 146 tackles (95 solo), seven tackles for a loss, 13 interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

With this team, going to the active roster doesn't necessarily mean playing time, automatically. Look at all of our other "kids" on the roster, who have no playing time, or virtually none

Maybe Bruce is looking to trade him during the offseason. If he could get a 5th for GooButt, then Buchanon may bring something similar. Even a 7th rounder would be nice.

Valid point, but going into his 11th season, and having some issues, even a 7th may be pushing it.

Are you kidding - nobody is going to offer anything for any over-the-hill, mediocre, injury-plagued, player with suspension issues.

Exactly. He tested the free agent market and got very little action. The only thing that's changed btw then and now is we've placed him on IR.

We've made some odd roster choices this year with him and Sellers... possibly Cooley too as far as keeping guys around who just can't contribute. In hindsight, Cooley should have probably been put on the PUP list, but Sellers and Buchanon obviously shouldn't have been a part of this team. And I say that having been a fan of both.

The Redskins were lucky to get Thompson back off waivers.

Buchanon at 31 is a bit long in the tooth and is on a one year deal so you probably won't be seeing him in a Redskins uniform again.
