When the Cowboys look across the line of scrimmage on Dec. 25, their primary concern will, of course, be dealing with the likes of Jayden Daniels, Deebo Samuel, Bobby Wagner, and Daron Payne.
But for this year's holiday matchup with division rival Washington, America's Team might be staring down a few Ghosts of Christmas Past, too: guys with names like Theismann, Monk, Manley, and Riggins.
The Commanders on Wednesday announced their throwback uniforms for the 2025 season, which they'll wear in three games this year. One of those dates will be Week 17, when the Cowboys visit Northwest Stadium for a Christmas Day contest set to be streamed on Netflix in the early-afternoon timeslot.
For their throwback set, the Commanders will return to what they're calling their "Super Bowl-era threads," a look that recalls the uniforms in which they won championships following the 1982, 1987, and 1991 seasons.
Their burgundy helmets will get gold facemasks and a classic triple-wide center stripe, but the modern "W" logo will remain. White jerseys will be paired with burgundy pants, with old-school striping on the sleeves and the pants. The team will also change their number font and nameplate font on the backs of the jerseys to a block-letter style more in keeping with the retro look.
The team will debut the throwbacks in Week 9 when they host Seattle and wear them again in Week 13 versus Denver. The Christmas game versus Dallas will mark the third occasion for the uniform; NFL teams are allowed four outings in alternate uniforms this season.
There is already buzz that the Commanders could introduce a burgundy version of the uniform for next year and eventually adopt these throwbacks as their regular uniforms.
No official word yet from the Cowboys on which uniforms they'll wear for each game in 2025, but this move by Washington guarantees that Dallas will have to wear blue on Christmas.
The Week 17 game will mark the sixth time in their history the Cowboys have played on Christmas Day, but their first time doing so against Washington.
