One of the greatest college basketball coaches and a man I always had high regard for as a true gentleman, John Wooden, former UCLA basketball coach died yesterday at the age of 99-four months shy of what would have been his 100th birthday.

He was a consummate gentleman, an excellent coach, and an American icon.

RIP, coach Wooden, you inspired me and countless others with your life. Thank you.

One of the greates to ever coach and must not have been a bad player as he is one of the few or maybe the only one that is in college basketball HOF as a player and coach. His memory was still sharp the day he went.

Nicely done, serv.

Grew up with UCLA and Coach Wooden as the gold standard of sport ... college, pro, anything. He was simply The Way It Should Be Done.

A respectful and sincere bow of the head to a life lived well.
