The Washington Commanders were back on the practice fields for Day 2 of training camp on Thursday in Ashburn. Much like Day 1, quarterback Jayden Daniels had another solid day. Sure, it's only Day 2 of camp, but Daniels doesn't look — or sound — like a player who will endure a sophomore slump in 2025.
It was another day full of drills, featuring lots of one-on-ones for the wide receiver and tight ends. On Wednesday, rookie wideout Ja'Corey Brooks starred, catching two touchdowns during practice. Did Brooks have another good day on Thursday? Let's take a look.
Here are four standouts from Day 2 of training camp.
Zach Selby of Washington's official website credited Brooks with another practice touchdown. Who threw it to him? Jayden Daniels. Brooks' size (6-foot-3) and big-play potential stand out. For a team that doesn't have a traditional big receiver — Noah Brown and Luke McCaffrey are 6-foot-2 — he is making it hard on the coaches early in camp, which is a good thing. Other receivers are 6-foot-2 or taller, but Brooks has the most realistic chance of making the roster. Brown and McCaffrey will be on the roster. It's not just Brooks' height; he is excellent at high-pointing the football, and actually plays to his size.
Chris Moore is 32 and has been in the NFL since 2016. He's not your average roster hopeful. He signed with the Commanders late in the 2024 season and was placed on the practice squad. He signed a futures contract in January, and many figured he'd be a depth receiver for camp. Moore is taking advantage of the extra reps in Terry McLaurin's absence. If there's one receiver spot up for grabs, Moore and Brooks are the early leaders. Moore is an excellent route runner and does everything right, sort of like Olamide Zaccheaus last season.
The 6-foot-7 former quarterback-turned-tight end had a good day on Thursday. Jackson caught a touchdown in practice and is still developing in that role. Much like former Washington tight end Logan Thomas, Jackson has the size, strength and speed to make the transition. If the Commanders keep four tight ends, Jackson is battling Colson Yankoff for that final spot. It all comes down to special teams. Who wouldn't love a 6-foot-7 target in the red zone?
The rookie second-round pick had a good day on Wednesday. However, he stood out even more on Thursday, breaking up multiple passes. His length is evident and causes problems for receivers when they're trying to separate. The Commanders have believed all along that Amos can start in 2025, and the early days of camp are encouraging.
