I’m not going to lie. I thought the same thing when I saw the original tweet. They used the uniform that already looks like a Steelers uniform. Everything this team does is still fodder for the rest of the league.

Slay is 32. How long would he be here?

If I felt like we were going to be in a position to challenge this year, I can see it but otherwise, I feel like the money can be better spent in other places.

I feel the same way about LBs Wagner (32) and David (33).

Would signing any of these guys make our defense better? Yeah, probably. It would also require a lot of money and take snaps away from younger players - players who will still be here in a couple of years.

Unless, of course, we all feel like Howell is going to jump from a 1-game Rookie straight to Pro Bowl QB (not impossible but also not to be expected, especially with also learning a new offense).

Granted, I'm looking beyond this season too, which is a luxury I have as a fan that this coaching staff likely doesn't feel like they have with the impending change in ownership.

That sounds right to me. We do need corner help but I’d rather find it in the draft if possible.

Another key person attitude and effort wise gone in Cole. I am shocked we are letting them go so easily.

Most of the beat reporters have indicated that the team wanted to keep him so I doubt we let him go "easily". Players have choices and maybe he didn't want to be here anymore.

Unless someone talks, and I hope they don't, we won't ever really know.

Usually we hear of negotiations and intent. With Taylor and Cole it was radio silence until they were with another team.

That sucks. Holcomb has been out there carrying most of the water for a very weak LBing corps. And it just got even weaker. They’d better have a plan.
Narrator: They have no plan.
Outside of Jamin Davis, they’ve never really addressed linebacker Ron’s whole tenure.
Now we have Jamin Davis, his brother Darrell and his other brother Darrell as our LB corp.

Head scratcher for sure.

That’s a fair assessment. Hopefully we are not done at LB 😳

Yeah not quite a fan of that signing either Mike, but it's slim pickens out there in the secondary QB market.

I haven't watched Brissett play a ton in his career, but provided we didn't overpay for the guy, what we are getting is a 7 year vet with 48 career starts under his belt. He has always appeared to be the type of backup who knows his role, yet is experienced enough to play in a pinch. I think it is exactly the type of QB Howell needs in the room to keep him "on his toes" so to speak, without necessarily threatening his supposed role as starter. Honestly, it is probably one of the few free agency acquisitions I am okay with this far.

Brissett to the fucking skins. Damnit
Why ‘fucking’? He’s probably one of the best remaining QBs available that wouldn’t be brought in as a starter. He’s pretty talented from the few times I’ve seen him but will have to study up on him.

It’s reportedly a 1 year deal only.

Because we shouldn't have needed to replace him with Jacoby.

If I sell my truck today and need to haul wood tomorrow, should I be happy I got an old Datsun hatchback?

Heinicke obviously didn’t want to sign here - what do you want them to do? Seriously - they can’t force guys to sign.

They fully intend to give Howell 2023. He’s going to be solid - wait and see.

He was a Redskin all the way until our head coach called the rookie next year's starter before the season was even over. Why would he want to stay?

I have no choice but to wait and see, but I am not happy with how this coaching staff handled most things from last year and now part of the free agency period.

Brissett has been a pretty good QB when he has played. He’s not leading a team to a Super Bowl, but he’s been capable every time he’s been called on as a backup. I hadn’t really followed who was a wasn’t out there, but I can’t imagine someone else out there who would be better for backup money.
