Looks promising to me.. :)

Quandon Christian 6'3 235 OLB Clemson......looks promising to me :)

Is Tommy Rees the only 4th QB we could get? YEESH! I'm a big Notre Dame fan but Rees is "just a guy". Would have preferred Connor Shaw, Brett Smith or Jeff Matthews. I guess they had "better offers".

I was hoping to see Johnson or Richardson come into the fold.

Seems as if San Diego was working the phones before any of the other teams. They signed something like 4 or 5 of the first 10 guys out of the gate.

Not sure how true this is but I've heard that a lot of these UDFA's or their reps are actually contacted early and especially during the 6th and 7th rounds and told there's interest in them in case they DON'T get drafted. I've also heard some guys tell these teams that they've already been contacted by another team and "if you want me to play for you, you'll have to draft me". Not saying this is what happened but I suppose it could have been the case with the kicker we picked and could be why you see kickers and punters taken late.

It may have been the only way to get decent competition for Kai.

This isn't really a list of players we actually signed, is it ?
I assumed it was just a wish list by DP, or the best available right now.
Because they don't sign UDFA's on the same day the draft ends, do they ?
I thought for sure, it didn't start until at least the next day, for some reason

No wish list.
This is who they signed.

Not saying your wrong but - is that legal? Doesn't sound like it but maybe it is OK. Not saying it doesn't happen or couldn't happen.

And how would you know the guy isn't bluffing, just to get a better salary for being a draft pick ?

Maybe fear, Fear. Fear that it is not a bluff.

That is quite possibly the first time in the history of the English language that the word fear has been strung together three times in succession, in other than poetry, and it has add perfect sense.

Well done, brother.

The deal is, you just never know. If you feel your kicker is an All-Pro or at least safe then it doesn't really matter who you bring in. You just need camp bodies to keep your guy from getting too leg-weary and you don't bother drafting one. In Gruden's case, being a rookie NFL HC, he wants quality competition and since Kai's kickoffs are pretty pedestrian, you make sure you bring in a young guy that you feel will give him a run for his money.

I'm certainly not saying competition from another team for his services was the case here but you have to admit, it seems likely. There's one sure way to get a guy on your roster and that's drafting him.

Oh and JB, well done!

Thanx Jimbo - BTW, sounds like from the post draft - Coach Ben was really hot to get this guy so why not? And I do like what they did with the UDFAs afterward.

If you're going to use a pick (some would call it a waste) on a kicker or punter, you'd better have extra picks or a REAL need for one. I guess it remains to be seen whether or not this was a smart pick but, since the majority of 7th round picks don't make the 53-man roster, it probably won't matter in the long run.

Here's an updated list I found of UDFA's and guys invited for a tryout:

J.R. Carr - Long Snapper- Tenn
Silas Redd RB - USC(Confirmed by team)
Tommy Rees - QB - Notre Dame
Bryan Shepherd - DB - NDSU
Justin Blake - FS- Hampton
Cody Hoffman - WR - BYU($7500 signing bonus)

Robert Thomas - DL - Arkansas
Chris Davenport - DL - Tulane
Rashad Lawrence - WR - Northwestern
Mike Box - QB - IUP(Tryout)
Lee Doss - WR - Southern
Quandon Christian - LB - Clemson
Kofi Hughes - WR - Indiana
Kevin Fogg - CB/KR - Liberty

...

So, when do these guys get to "try out"?

Not sure if they'll do that during the next set of OTA's at the end of this month, IF that's allowed under the CBA, or if they'll have to wait until the June minicamp.

FYI, you have Blake Sailors listed as being from Ohio State, he's from Georgia.

Thanks! Fixed it.

Jimbo, I recently came across the kicking stats on Forbath, and the kickoffs weren't pretty.

He was near the worst, if not the absolute worst in the league in terms of touch backs. Conversely, the kicker we brought in was near the top.

What's the easiest way to guarantee that no one ever returns a kickoff for a TD against us? Don't give them a chance.

The heat's on. Let the competition begin.
