What team can we model ourselves after?

One could be the Bears.
Did you know that Ryan Pace, the GM was ranked the worst in the NFL recently?

They have a "bad" GM(might be linked to the Trubisky trade), and they have 5 pro bowl guys, Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, Kyle Fuller, Eddie Jackson and return specialist Tarik Cohen. Mack, Fuller, Jackson and Cohen are probowl starters. We have 3, although Scherff has missed half the year.

They also have a great defensive coordinator. We do not.
That apparently counts. A LOT.

So, build up that Defense and get you an athletic qb that does not make crucial mistakes could be our quickest path to success.

We are not going to be the patriots folks.
Unless Snyder sells the team to Robert Kraft, who decides to be a Redskins fan.

We may not be able to replicate the Patriots 100%, but I certainly would model any future team on Belichek's discipline, and knowledge of the game. Player acquisition is one thing, but getting the most from the players y9ou have is another...Gruden just doesn't get that.

They practice things like the 2 minute drill, we obviously do not. They practice things like taking advantage of a defense that is trying to match substitutions so they have too many players ion the field.

There are many more examples, but these little things are practiced. The fact that we don't is evident on the field.

If I were the owner I would be looking to hire an executive from an organization like Pittsburgh or Green Bay.

These teams consistently put out good teams and don't usually dip into free agency to remedy their failings. Their scouts are able to find guys who can play and they move on from guys that don't produce.

The Steelers for example were 9-6-1 this season and THAT has caused enough heartburn in Pittsburgh to have fans and media upset over the immediate direction of the team.

Imagine that?

If the Redskins finished 9-6-1 fans and media would be jumping for joy and turning out on the streets as if we had won the Super Bowl.

Along the way the Steelers had some personnel issues they are still dealing with in malcontents Bell and Brown.

These guys are uber-talented but have egos the size of Manhattan.

The Steelers likely will trade Brown and Bell will leave in FA.

But Pittsburgh was able to draft Ju Ju Smith Shuster in Round 2 at WR. At a young 23 he is a potential #1 down the road.

Meanwhile the Redskins drafted Josh Doctson higher, in Round 1 and have received far less production.

They were able to draft James Conner in Round 3 to overcome the loss of Bell and still have a 1,000 yard rusher.

Again, the Redskins drafted Matt Jones and Samaje Perine in that same general area of the draft and one is already gone and the other was inactive for 12 or 13 games this season.

We had to go on the street to find Adrian Peterson at the last second.

There was no legitimate Plan B when Guice went down. The players we had in here that Gruden and the front office had championed like Perine, Kelley, etc. couldn't do the job.

Along with Pittsburgh and Green Bay you can look to a team like the Chargers that seems to be able to find capable players despite drafting in the teens to twenties most seasons.

Despite the move and playing in front of fewer fans than the Redskins have, the Chargers came within a hair of getting the #1 seed in the AFC playoffs.

We haven't had a good running back/receiver combo since Portis and Moss.

Yet the Chargers are able to go out and get Keenan Allen and Melvin Gordon.

That team has someone in the front office that is playing the right keys on the piano.

Agree 100%. But the ship has wrecked on the rocks, and the waves are washing over it. It has GOT to start with a new GM and a vision of what the owner wants the team to be. Does he want to be Air Coryell? Or does he want to be Mike Ditka/Buddy Ryan and the 80's Bears? That's how far we've sunk under Snyder, so far that we don't even have a team identity anymore. It's all got to start there. If it does..............great, we can draft/recruit from that point. If it doesn't...................the stadium will be whatever color our opponents wear next year and until this gets fixed. Unfortunately, I have no confidence that Dan Snyder, even after 20 years, has any idea how to even lay a new foundation.

I would love to see the Skins draft several stud oline over the next couple years and build the team from the trenches. The team finally has some great young talent on the dline so they're halfway there. I actually think that Alex Smith and AP could have been very effective, if they had a stud oline in front of them. It doesn't matter what we think though b/c as long as Snyder owns the team this is how it's going to be.

We have good DL prospects, especially if we move to the 4-3.

Trent and Brandon are solid on the OL and I think Moses will bounce back after a subpar 2018 for him.

We need LG, we need to re-evaluate Rouillier at center and we need to find tight ends that can block in the run game.

And we need to move on from Nsekhe and Bergstrom and find younger players with more upside.

Quarterback is the most deviling question the team needs to answer.

It's like a goalie in hockey, without a top notch performer you aren't winning titles anytime soon.

I generally agree with you, but I actually would prefer they solidify the oline for years to come, then get the QB. True LG is the biggest need on the line, but Williams isn't going to be around forever.

Been saying that for years. Ya gotta build the lines. And not only do you have to build the lines once, but considering how injury prone we've been the last few years, ya gotta build them twice until we can figure the injury bug thing out. You can't have a Pro Bowler in any position and have someone that was selling cars last year backing then up. It would be painful, but we need to do this first and put up with the current crop of flops at WR, RB, TE and QB for the next few years in order to get this done.

The funny part was the guy brought in from getting carts at Wegmans up the street from Redskins Park (I can't actually qualify that) did better than Shawn Lauvao, or at least no worse. I hope they realize that experiment needs to go bye-bye and invest in Guards.

That was what drafting Geron Christian was supposed to be about - finding and developing a young OT behind Trent and Morgan.

Now whether the Redskins selected the RIGHT prospect in Round 3 is another question.

I don't like seeing high picks on the inactive list for weeks as rookies but that's what the Redskins do.

It seems like all the high picks other than #1's get red-shirted by the organization.

In places like Pittsburgh and NE these picks seem to see the field early.

That has to change.

Again, this team goes into each offseason with a squad that finishes 7-9 or 8-8 yet when it comes to changes Gruden indicates he has most of his starting 22 already in place.

How can that be if we are properly evaluating talent? 😦

All of your post was great. But these 2 lines are the key. Selecting the right player is the key to building a successful team. We can all piss and moan about what position to take and what's a bigger need. But if you evaluate the talent properly and identify the best players, you will build a strong, deep team. The problem with the Redskins is that for the most part, they suck at evaluating and picking talent. This was especially true of the supposed genius Scot Mcloughan. I know he had a great track record over the years, but not when he was with the Redskins. His tenure proves that's it's all about selecting the right guys. As long as the Redskins continue to select the wrong guys, regardless of if it's the right position, they will continue to fail.

You would think the Redskins could go out and get a GM that didn't have all the off field issues that McCloughan had.

Grabbing a guy that was let go by two other teams because of addiction issues raises red flags about Bruce Allen's judgment as Team President let alone his ability to pick personnel.

That is an absolute truth. I was duped, because all accounts were that the guy was sober. A couple weeks after he was hired, I saw him with a beer in his hand and immediately got concerned. A real alcoholic of the type he appears to be, cannot drink casually.

The guy is talented, but when drinking it is obvious his ego got so big he thought he could take risks, like with Su'a Cravens. Or...he never had complete control over who was chosen in those drafts.

Or maybe Brucie thought it meant McLovin would be in his pocket and under his thumb.

Re-evaluate Roullier?

The guy that just played every offensive snap for the injury riddled Redskins?

Yeah....OK

I think he's the least of our Oline problems.

Or a smart move by Allen if he knew the odds weren't long on McLovin surviving his demons.

Cowher wanted to draft an offensive lineman even with Rothlisberger available when they were on the clock

I dont know which team we'd model ourselves on (Defence - Baltimore, Offence - Chargers?) but I'm certain we are modelling ourselves on the 2017 Browns!

You guys would be crucifing this organization even more if we took a no name like this in the draft especially the second round
https://www.pro-football-reference....n=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-

then the guy after him was an undrafted free agent on most boards

while Bill has more hits than misses his top of the draft first 3 rounds isn't as good as people think it is

The one player the Skins should be looking at in the off-season is Nick Foles. I doubt Foles would want to come here, because other teams are going to offer him more, but he is easily the most obvious fix to our QB woes.

Too bad we're married to Alex Smith's contract and cannot afford Foles. A team like Denver or Jacksonville will pick him up with so many other pieces of the puzzle there, and be successful with him.
