It's getting very close to McCoy time.

I think you can develop an offense that takes advantage of Robert's skills without putting him in danger. The read-option to some extent protected Robert from big shots, but that doesn't mean you are limited to the read option... Robert's problem with getting injured is also do to the fact he feels he is SuperMan and will throw his body into contact. He is reckless. It's a flaw, for sure. He is built as sturdy as other QBs in the league, but he takes more chances with his body and always has. He did this at Baylor too.

Robert needs an offense that moves him out of the pocket too... He doesn't move well in the pocket, so moving the pocket with play action and sprinkling in read-option really helps. Robert's first year wasn't a "gimmick" offense. A lot of teams run that now...

Robert cannot scan a defense at the line of scrimmage and know exactly where he should go with the ball. You can only call so many roll outs...you eliminate almost half the field when you do and defenses will pick it up. There is no scheme for him to succeed with his current skill set. The read-option is done as anything more than an off-balance play during a game, it does not look like Robert can escape pressure anymore, and he will get hurt trying.

Which leads us to the reckless play, that has been my rub on him all along. He cannot stay healthy in this league playing like that and at this point the FO is not going to risk 16 million to have a QB incapable of reading a defense on the roster next season if/when he gets injured playing this year. That is possibly 1/10th of our salary cap next year on a QB who can't even break the starting lineup in 85% of the NFL at this point.

Griffin will only see the field this year if injuries dictate this. It's just not gonna happen any other way and for us to continue to argue Griffin v. Cousins is futile. The future QB of this team is likely not on the roster...unless Kirk has an epiphany and becomes something other than an INT machine. I think that is as hopeful as Griffin being a quality starter on this team.
