Burner's Burning Questions: The Fifty-Three Man Roster And Practice Squad, 2015

Jarrett and Will Compton will get claimed IMO if they are placed on the practice squad.

I don't think McCloughan is going to be so quick to expose his 2015 picks and risk losing any more of them.

31 year old Kedric Golston to me is vulnerable. He's on the wrong side of 30 and has no impact in the passing game.

A guy of his caliber can be signed during the season if there are injuries. Don't forget Baker can play DE as well.

I bet the Redskins keep Jarrett especially if he can play a slot corner spot in a pinch.

So , 5 safeties instead of 4.

Also I don't see Compton making it at tackle. Yes, he plays both sides, but neither at an NFL level.

Will Smith has starting experience and if he is not kept then I could see a move after cuts to sign another backup.

Part of Compton's problem is that he lacks strength and heading into his 4th NFL season doesn't seem to fit this scheme.

I had high hopes for Xavier Nixon.
He was supposedly highly touted. And then when Indy nabbed him off our PS and onto their active roster, that fueled the intrigue that he might be something special
Then when they let him go, and the Skins' picked him up a 2nd time, I was like, "YEA, both Nixon AND the Skins get a 2nd chance to make it work together."
Then they cut him again :(

BBQ’s Early Preseason 2016 Mock Draft

Here is our first mock for 2016 – just a preseason sample. We’ll have another one embedded within our weekly update at the bye during the regular season. BBQ mocks return next winter. Tomorrow we will have another fifty-three player roster update.

Round One:
Jalen Ramsey, FS, Florida St.
Fills a long term need as Goldson moves on.

Round Two:
Josh Doctson, WR, TCU:
A lanky possession/red zone receiver becomes the replacement for Andre Roberts.

Round Three:
Evan Boehm, C, Missouri
The Redskins continue to get younger and stronger on the OL.

Round Four:
Taveze Calhoun, CB, Mississippi St.
A productive nickel corner and special teams standout.

Round Five:
Patrick Towles, QB, Kentucky
Redskins need a long term backup solution at QB and find one who has a strong-armed cannon.

Round Six:
Nick Vannett, TE, Ohio St.
Productive tight end in a run first offense, excellent blocker.

Round Seven:
Soma Vainuku, FB, Southern Cal
An excellent blocker who can also excel on special teams.

From what I heard Xavier Nixon's issues were all above the shoulders.

He had the size and physical ability to find a place in the NFL, but had questionable workout habits and off the field behavior.

The Colts let him go because he was erratic, he missed practices, team flights, etc. with no real good explanation to the team.

Houston Bates seems to be surging and trending upward.
Houston was signed by Houston earlier this year as an UDFA, then they cut him just days later.
He was probably a longshot at first. Then I noticed he was out with the 1st team defense last night, and making his presence felt

Perhaps its all moot now with the team adding Galette and Preston Smith to the group of OLB but Jackson Jeffcoat always seems to get a sack or a forced fumble or something when he is out there on the field.

It's surprising they didn't give him more of a shot last year.

I wonder if he's just a gamer... Practices horrible, seems to show up on gameday?

Figure BB will be coming along soon with his 'cut tracker' but so far
reported K Ty Long had been released. ..was just told that OL Bryce Quigley has also been let go by #Redskins

On paper, it looks like a decent team. Possibly a 9-7 team.

Maybe. As always, it comes down to the QB position. And as has been the case for the last twenty years, we don't know what we have there. If Kirk can hold it together after a pick better than last year, we could indeed be in line for a good year. I thought he looked awfully good the other night.

I noticed in the cutdowns today that Dixon, Brun and Mahina are all gone. Came in here to see who's left. Looks like it's just Jordan Reed and Derek Carrier? (Not counting Tom Compton). Sounds a bit thin to me.

Updated to account for the tight end decisions.

Je'Ron and DJ added to the mix. More Je'Updates will be posted when needed. Next full update coming Friday.
