Redskins, Giants among 9 NFL teams eligible for 2015 'Hard Knocks' - CBSSports.com

The NFL changed the way it will handle teams featured on HBO's Hard Knocks back in 2013, deciding to compel certain teams to appear on the preseason reality show. With the playoffs locked and coaching changes -- we think -- on lockdown, we know what teams are eligible.

Assuming no other changes, there are nine teams eligible for Hard Knocks in 2015 either because they did not make the playoffs in the last two years, were not on the show the last 10 years and/or do not have a first-year head coach.

The Giants, Redskins, Browns, Texans, Jaguars, Titans, Vikings, Buccaneers and Rams are all eligible to be compelled by the league to participate because they don't meet any of the three criteria.

Here's the rest of the teams are exempt from being forced to appear on the show:

Playoffs Last Two Years: Patriots, Steelers, Bengals, Ravens, Colts, Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Cowboys, Eagles, Packers, Lions, Panthers, Saints, Seahawks, Cardinals

New Head Coach: Bills, Jets, Raiders, Bears, 49ers, Falcons

Hard Knocks Appearance: Dolphins

Any of the exempt teams can still appear if they desire. For instance, Bill Belichick could choose to have the Patr-- HAHAHAHA. Just kidding. That won't happen.

That is supposedly still in place SNF. So unless someone volunteers.......that leaves the Browns and Skins as likely choices.

I suppose the Bucs and Jameis would draw some viewers too.

The Myth of the Hard Knocks Curse

As HBO searched far and wide this offseason to find an NFL team willing to appear on Hard Knocks, various arguments started to pop up justifying each team’s decision to pass on the popular training camp exposé. Some made more sense than others. It’s totally logical that teams in the hyper-secretive NFL would want to avoid revealing strategic wrinkles and weaknesses to a national audience.

And it’s not hard to fathom that a young team like the Seahawks or Vikings might prefer to keep their maturing players strictly focused on football during camp. One excuse stood out as questionable at best. Although organizations didn’t cite it as a key reason in turning down Hard Knocks, fan chatter about the possibility inevitably ended up considering the idea that there is a Hard Knocks curse. After all, nobody’s been on Hard Knocks and lived to tell the tale at the Super Bowl, despite an effort by the producers to pick possible candidates in 2008 (the Cowboys) and 2010 (the Jets).

Of course, failing to win the Super Bowl isn’t a fair baseline for a curse. If there really is a Hard Knocks curse, we’d expect to see teams consistently fail to reach the expectations they had heading into the show. It’s hard to establish that consistency with a mere handful teams having appeared on the program, but let’s look back at history and try to figure out whether there’s any evidence of a Hard Knocks curse.

2001: Baltimore Ravens

Previous season:
12-4, won Super Bowl
Hard Knocks season: 10-6, lost in divisional round of playoffs
OK, this already made us feel old. In 2001, Todd Heap was the naive first-round pick with the Tannehill-esque stunning wife; now, it’s impossible to describe Todd Heap without using the adjective “grizzled veteran.” (For more on this season of Hard Knocks, you can enjoy a running diary of Episode 1 by a certain proprietor of a certain website here.)
Is there any evidence of a Hard Knocks curse here? Not really ...

Don't care about a curse. Just know there is zero benefit in doing the show. And the potential circus of detrimental bullshit is too scurry to think about.

PS ~ There is no such thing as a "reality" show. And most all of the so called ones, are some of the worst tv in the history of tv.

Might still make an appearance, just a bitty one tho.

ESPN's Tania Ganguli reported today that the team that could replace the Saints is the Washington Redskins. The deal is not finalized yet, and it has been reported that Dan Snyder wants no part of being on 'Hard Knocks'. If the Redskins are not the featured team will that change things? The Redskins do not play the Texans this year, but did play them in Week 1 last season. Washinton will reportedly host the Texans in Richmond if the teams agree to the joint practices. J.J. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, Bill O'Brien and the HBO camera crews are waiting could be waiting for the Redskins in Richmond this summer.

Fwiw: the Redskins and Texans will practice vs one another on aug 6, 7 and 8.
