This is a pretty good read, based upon PFF's grades of all players in the league.

No one will agree with every grade, but if you click on a team name you can also see each player's strengths and weaknesses.

On the Redskins page, John Keim also makes comments on each specific player, and notes where he agrees or disagrees. A nice, thorough read.

The missing pieces: How many players away from the Super Bowl was each team?

Hmm.

We have one Good player--Kerrigan.

We have the following Average players--DeSean Jackson, Trent Williams, Pierre Garcon.

We have the following Bad player--Alfred Morris.

Pretty packaging. Silly content.

I like the Keim info on each player, and then if you scroll further down, who the best value is, worst value and so forth. The Morris grade seems to be the most inaccurate. On Morris from Keim:

RB Alfred Morris: Not sure how he's listed as bad. Morris' numbers this season were decidedly average: He rushed for 1,074 yards (league average: 792), averaged 4.1 yards per carry (average: 4.3), scored eight touchdowns (average: five) and averaged 2.0 yards after contact (average: 1.8). He's not an elite back, but he isn't bad, either. The executive called him a solid starter but not a dynamic one. I agree with that assessment.

Yeah. DeSean is average? Really? We had pretty horrific QB play most of the year and he still scared the shit out of defenses. Average WRs don't keep opposing DCoordinators up at night.

And Morris is bad? He didn't have a great year, but I can't call him anywhere near bad. That just seems... weird.

Listening to Sirius Fantasy this last season they argued that Jackson is what he is and is the same regardless of who the QB is. With the exception of the one year under Chip Kelly, his years pretty much all look the same. Does he scare teams? Yeah. Is he consistent? No. If he could fix the consistency issue he would be amazing but until then...

calling Alfred Morris a good but not great back is not only stupid it is insulting. He got 1000 yards with this shitty line and all he does is run the rock as hard as any back out there. If he had the line that Dallass or Cheattle had he would be up in the 1500-1700 each year.

So tired of people taking bullshit shots at our team that arent even legitimate.

#1 WR in yards per catch
1169 yards with 3 different QBs

I hope he doesnt scare teams. Because once we get Griffin dialed in I dont want them thinking to double him. =)

Jackson, Williams, Morris and Kerrigan would fetch good players or good draft picks if ever traded.

They'd be welcomed on any team in the NFL.

To get any value you would have to get a decent draft pick and a player what good does it do to trade a player for another player when you make that area weak and the other area stronger

Yeah, this is where I am on the trade of good players, especially an All-pro LT and a should be All-pro DE/OLB. Trent Williams of the world don't come along too often.

However, the RB position is a little different. If we could trade Morris for something stupid, like a 1st round pick, you have to jump on that. Morris is one of my favorite on the team, but it has been proven that a solid to good RB can be found a lot easier than most other positions in today's NFL. Which is probably why we'd never get that kind of compensation for him.

Gibbs didn't get rid of Riggins, Coleman, Warren, Butz, etc.

He and Beathard built around those guys.

We shouldn't have to get rid of solid contributors to improve (?).

This rating system is a bit ****-eyed. Andrew Luck is simply a 'good' quarterback while Brees is elite?

Trent Williams as indicated is rated as 'average' or analogous then to Doug Free?

I don't see that.

DeSean Jackson with 1,169 yards on 20.8 average is not 'good' or even 'elite'?

Given the quarterbacks he was working with his production merits extra consideration.

Maybe 50 players or so? About 4 maybe 3 years (with a lot of luck) before this team can be a contender for anything. How many of these current guys will be around by then? How many guys that you do get don't work out versus the ones that do? Not every draft pick is gonna work. Not every vet acquired is gonna work. Some guys will fall just due to attrition. Some positions might take a few shots to clean things up. Scot will hit some home runs but not at every at bat.

Focus on some lineman (both sides of the ball) for now - they age better than most positions. By the time the Skins catch up in their other spots these guys should be in their prime.

Great teams have that signature draft where they pull 3 or 4 starters and another couple of contributors.

For the Redskins to return to prominence we need that here.

I like the idea of having multiple picks in a round but too often it was Allen trading a #6 pick for two #7's.

Was it 2011 where we had 11 picks but 3 of them were in Round 7?

That's not quite the same thing as Dallas stockpiling #2 picks under Jimmy Johnson or Bellichick doing the same with #3's and #4's.

Agreed BD. We are going to need a run of 2 or 3 years where we have 8 to 12 picks in the first 3 rounds or so.

In defense of the later picks...we were having 4 or 5 total. Allen might have gotten them later in the draft but it was nice to at least someone show am interest in the draft again instead of free agent bonanza.

Well , one thing is for sure. These ESPN ratings are as bad as when Jimmy the Greek used to do his checklist to determine who would win.

Counting the number of elite and good players on a team doesn't guarantee anything.

What if you have 2 elite players and 4 good ones but they are all on defense and you don't have a quarterback or any receivers?

Is that team still primed for a run?
