Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2015 (Continual Updates)

They gave Cofield $25K to sign. The average UDFA signs for $5-10K so our GM must see something he likes.

After watching a little bit of game film from Tomlinson (to see what I could of Cofield) and highlights, I'm surprised Cofield went undrafted. At worst, he ends up on the PS but I could easily see him replacing McRib or even Compton. He played LT at Duke and looked pretty nimble for a big guy.

Hail To The Redskins!

I have to think the Redskins will be looking to add a veteran TE with size over the summer. We didn't draft any and our top two on the depth chart are undersized as blockers.

If we are going to play a 'heavier' game on offense we need a clearing TE that goes 250-260.

Round Two: Preston Smith, OLB/DE, Mississippi St.
He is an explosive player who will allow Trent Murphy to move inside to ILB and form a powerful linebacker corps.

Round Five: Martrell Spaight, ILB, Arkansas
The first team All-SEC backer led the conference in tackles and will now shift from OLB to ILB with his new team. He will push Perry Riley for a starting position.

So, I'm confused a bit about the ILB's.
It's assumed of course, Robinson has one ILB spot.
Then under Preston Smith's projection, it looks like he plays next to Trent Murphy who will take the other ILB spot.
But under Spaight, it's Perry Riley starting, with Spaight challenging.
So who's the projected starter inside, next to Robinson ? Murphy or Riley ?

from left to right:

Murphy/Smith
Riley
Robinson
Kerrigan

Of course, I am hoping that Will Compton or Spaight really brings it over the summer and manages to unseat Riley. Riley is a very good athlete but Haslett seemingly ignored the fact Riley simply doesn't have good instincts to play the position, especially in the passing game. He blows more assignments than you can count.

from left to right:

Murphy/Smith
Riley
Robinson
Kerrigan
.

That makes more sense, because I remember Joe Barry being interviewed and asked if we could see Murphy and Smith on the field at the same time (which of course, implies it would be out of the norm for them, and the norm would be them playing the same position).

Of course, Barry grinned widely, and said Oh Yes

I don't think we are done yet.

That $6M we just picked up from letting Porter and Chester go can be used to sign a veteran or two that gets released over the summer.

It happens every year. Productive players are cut for cap or 'fit' reasons and become someone else's bargain.

Next year's draft is absolutely stacked. So many immediate starters, and so many with star potential.

It's very early, but next year is shaping up to be a homerun for teams looking for a safety or cornerback. Kind of like the once-in-a-decade draft a few years ago for WRs. 4 are expected to go in the top 15 picks of the first round. That's pretty insane.

If we can get the other positions on the team to progress, we might finally have a shot at our own Kam Chancellor or ST jr.

Here's one to keep an eye on this season. He's currently projected to go 8th in the draft.

The only downside is that he's 5'11.

Here's another one worth watching this season.

He's 6'1, and projected by many to be the single top pick next season. It's wayyyy too early, but when was the last year that a DB was taken first overall?

And props to BB, who chose this player to be our first pick in the 2016 mock draft.
