REDSKINS SIGN CB JUSTIN ROGERS

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent cornerback Justin Rogers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Rogers (5-11, 181) was originally selected by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round (206th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. He appeared in 34 games with seven starts for the Bills from 2011-13, compiling 73 tackles, 14 passes defensed and three interceptions. During the 2011-12 seasons, Rogers returned 15 kickoffs for 428 yards (28.5 avg.) with Buffalo.

Rogers was waived by the Bills on Nov. 19 and claimed off waivers by the Houston Texans a day later. He appeared in one game with the Texans in 2013, before being waived on Nov. 28. Rogers also had stints with the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs.

Rogers played collegiately at Richmond appearing in 52 games from 2006-10, recording 162 tackles (109 solo), half a sack, 12 interceptions, 28 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He also returned 112 kickoffs for 2,561 yards (22.9 avg.) and two touchdowns and added 26 career punt returns for 351 yards (13.5 avg.). In 2010, Rogers was first-team All-CAA at both cornerback and punt returner after leading the league in punt return average with 12.4 yards per return as a senior.

Rogers, 26, attended Redemptorist H.S. in Baton rouge, La., where he earned first-team all-district honors as well as first-team all-state and all-metro accolades as a senior. He was born on Jan. 16, 1988.

One aspect of the NFL that I still don't fully understand is the pay scale.

The absolute league minimum is $420k a year. Does Rogers suddenly go from being that gym rat yesterday to making $420k?

Or with only 3 games left, I'm going to assume he makes $420k/16 * 3 or $78,750 plus any small signing bonus.

Not bad for three weeks of work.

Merry Christmas, Mr. Rogers. Now show the world why you belong in the NFL.

He does have 'punt returner' in his resume. Every little bit helps.

Of course, they did cut another CB to make room because the Redskins are so deep there.
