Week Nine Grades, Mock Draft

Welcome to week nine questions and grades as the Redskins put forth a porous defensive effort against the Vikings. The heartbreaking loss was highlighted by the return of Robert Griffin, III to the quarterback position. Feel free to offer your own grades, opinions, suggestions, and ideas.

Also, we have some questions to close out this ninth week of action. As an added bonus this week, we have our one and only mock draft during the regular season.

Let’s take a look at the grades.

Quarterback:
Griffin did look somewhat “rusty” after a recuperation period of several weeks from a dislocated ankle. It was a solid effort, but two very untimely mistakes help to seal the loss – an interception late in the first half and missing a wide open receiver to end the game.
Grade: B-

Running Backs:
There can be no doubt that Alfred Morris benefits when Griffin is in the game. Roy Helu continues to impress at a third down specialist and relief running back. BBQ would like to see more of Silas Redd – about four or five touches a game.
Grade: B

Wide Receivers:
DeSean Jackson continues to put up impressive stats and is making his case for the Pro Bowl – this may sound like a broken record, but there is no doubt as to who is the team MVP thus far. Pierre Garcon, was undoubtedly underthrown to on the final offensive series, but he needs to step up his production.
Grade: B-

Tight Ends:
This position was neglected for some odd reason.
Grade: Incomplete

Offensive Line:
Tom Compton has become entrenched as the starter at right tackle. The unit overall was above average with the run game standing out. They allowed five sacks, but at least two of them can be attributed to the quarterback.
Grade: C+

Defensive Line:
From the penthouse to the outhouse in just one week. Jason Hatcher did have a sack, but the line did little else for the remainder of the game. Providing rushing lanes for the linebackers did not happen. Goal line defense was pitiful.
Grade: F

Linebackers:
Trent Murphy has a relentless motor and his lone sack was impressive. The defensive line did this unit no favors, but the overall effort was lackluster.
Grade: C-

Cornerbacks:
The corners had a good game, but were undermined with poor defensive line play. David Amerson and Bashaud Breeland continue to play well and are all but locked in long term at their positions.
Grade: B

Safeties:
In all honesty, the Vikings should’ve had two or three easy (additional) scores at the expense of the safeties. No one can deny that Ryan Clark is an upgrade over what the team has had over the last two years, but it does not excuse what happened in Minnesota.
Grade: F

Special Teams:
Tress Way continues his fantastic season and Kai Forbath continues to impress. Andre Roberts was good on kickoffs, but needs to signal for a fair catch when warranted.
Grade: A-

Coaching:
The offense did a fine job sans a couple of miscues. The grade for offensive coaching would probably fall in the range of a “B”, but we grade on overall coaching. This brings us to the defense and how that unit simply didn’t get the job done. Defensive coaching was, quite frankly, awful. Special teams were a bright spot once again.
Grade: C-

Week nine passes into the history books. How would you grade each position and the coaching staff? What are you looking for in the coming week against the Bucs? Why wasn’t Jim Haslett and Raheem Morris fired during the bye? Does it appear as if we have our cornerbacks of the present and future? Will Trent Murphy end Brain Orakpo’s tenure as a Redskin? On to week ten!

Mock Draft:

As promised, here is our one and only in-season mock draft.

Round One: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
Round Two: Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State
Round Three: Jarvis Harrison, OG, Texas A&M
Round Four: Gerod Holliman, FS, Louisville
Round Five: B.J. Finney, C, Kansas State
Round Six: Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA
Round Seven: Melvin Lewis, DT, Kentucky

See you again next week.

Hail to the Redskins!
