Game Notes: Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys

· The Washington Redskins defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 20-17, in overtime in front of an announced crowd of 87,055 people at AT&T Stadium on Monday night.

· Kicker Kai Forbath converted a 40-yard field goal attempt on the first possession of overtime. The Redskins’ defense followed by forcing a turnover on downs to give the Redskins their first overtime victory since a 30-24 win vs. San Diego on Nov. 3, 2013.

· The Redskins are now 25-14-1 all-time in overtime games. The Redskins’ 25 all-time overtime wins are tied with the Denver Broncos for the most all-time in regular season play.

· Including a win last week, the Redskins have now won consecutive games for the first time since winning seven straight to close the 2012 season.

· The Redskins appeared on Monday Night Football for the 65th time in team history. It was the 16th all-time meeting between the Redskins and Cowboys on Monday Night Football, the second-most played matchup in Monday Night Football history.

· The Redskins earned their first Monday night win against Dallas since the “Monday Night Miracle” on Sept. 19, 2005 in which the Redskins erased a 13-0 deficit with two Santana Moss touchdowns in the final four minutes for a 14-13 victory.

· The Redskins evened their all-time Monday night record against the Cowboys at 8-8 with the win.

· The victory represented the Redskins’ first overtime win against Dallas since Nov. 2, 1975. In that game, quarterback Billy Kilmer’s one-yard touchdown run gave the Redskins a 30-24 overtime win.

· The victory was the Redskins’ first win on Monday Night Football since Dec. 3, 2012 vs. the New York Giants.

· Quarterback Colt McCoy made his first start as a member of the Redskins. It was McCoy’s first NFL start since Dec. 8, 2011 as a member of the Cleveland Browns.

· McCoy completed 25-of-30 passes for 299 yards and a passer rating of 94.3.

· McCoy’s 83.3 percent completion percentage was the highest of his career among games he has started. It is the fourth-highest completion percentage by a Redskins quarterback with at least 20 attempts since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.

· McCoy scored on a seven-yard run in the third quarter, the second rushing touchdown of his career and his first since Nov. 7, 2010 as a member of the Browns.

· The rushing touchdown was the first by a Redskins quarterback since Robert Griffin III scored on a third-quarter run vs. Dallas in Week 17 of the 2012 season.

· Wide receiver DeSean Jackson gained a team-high 136 receiving yards on six receptions.

· Jackson recorded a 49-yard reception in the second quarter and a 45-yard reception in the third quarter. They were his 41st and 42nd career receptions of 40 yards or more, most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2008. Jackson has seven such receptions this season, most in the NFL.

· The 100-yard receiving game was the 24th of Jackson’s career and his fourth as a member of the Redskins in 2014. Jackson’s four 100-yard receiving games are the most by a member of the Redskins in the first eight games of a season since Santana Moss in 2005.

· The Redskins finished the game with five sacks, the most by any team against Dallas this season.

· Running back Alfred Morris gained 73 yards on 18 rushing attempts. With the effort, Morris (3,401) passed Mike Thomas (3,359) for No. 8 on the Redskins’ all-time rushing yardage list.

· Morris scored his fourth rushing touchdown of the year on a five-yard touchdown run on the Redskins’ first drive of the second half.

· The Redskins now have 27 points on the opening possessions of second halves this season, tied with Miami for most in the NFL.

· The rushing touchdown was Morris’ seventh against the Cowboys in his career. Morris entered the game with the most rushing touchdowns against Dallas of any active NFL player.

· The touchdown was the 24th of Morris’ career, pushing him past Cliff Battles (23) into sole possession of eighth place on the Redskins’ all-time list.

· Morris extended his streak of consecutive games against Dallas with at least one rushing touchdown to five games, the longest in team history.

· Morris recorded a season-long 29-yard carry in the third quarter.

· Andre Roberts matched his season and career long with a 37-yard punt return in the first quarter. Roberts’ long was set previously in Week 2 vs. Jacksonville.

· Safety Brandon Meriweather recorded career highs in sacks (two) and forced fumbles (two) in addition to posting seven tackles (all solo) and a fumble recovery. Meriweather is the first member of the Redskins in records available dating back to 1994 to record two sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in the same game.

· Meriweather recorded his second sack of the season, dropping Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo in the first quarter.

· Later in the quarter, Meriweather forced a fumble by Cowboys running back Joseph Randle. It was Meriweather’s first forced fumble of the season and his first since Week 17 last season. On the play, linebacker Trent Murphy recorded his first career fumble recovery.

· In the second quarter, Meriweather recorded his first fumble recovery of the season and his first since Week 12 of the 2013 season vs. San Francisco. The fumble was forced by cornerback Bashaud Breeland, his second forced fumble of the season.

· Meriweather’s three sacks this season surpass his career high (2.0) set with the New England Patriots in 2008.

· The Redskins opened the scoring with a 44-yard Forbath field goal on the team’s opening drive. The Redskins have now scored on opening drives in consecutive games for the first time since Weeks 5-6 of the 2013 season.

· Linebacker Perry Riley, Jr. recorded his second sack of the season in the first quarter.

· Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan recorded his 32nd career sack in the second quarter, giving him 7.5 on the season, one shy of his career high.

· Linebacker Keenan Robinson recorded the first full sack of his career, dropping Romo in the third quarter. Robinson now has 1.5 career sacks, all this season.

· The Redskins forced three fumbles for the first time since Week 11 of the 2012 season vs. Philadelphia.

· Tackle Tom Compton, wide receiver Ryan Grant and linebacker Trent Murphy made their first NFL starts.

· Linebacker Everette Brown made his Redskins debut.

· Punter Tress Way had a career-high three punts downed inside the 20.

· The Redskins did not allow a rushing touchdown for the third consecutive game. This marks the second three-game stretch this season in which the team has held opponents without a rushing touchdown (Weeks 1-3).

· The win represents the Redskins’ first against an NFC opponent this season and their first against an NFC East opponent since Week 17 of the 2012 season (vs. Dallas).

· The Redskins now have 43 wins against the Cowboys all-time, fourth-most all-time against a single opponent including postseason play. The Redskins’ 42 current wins against the Cowboys are tied with their 42 wins against the Steelers for fourth-most against an opponent.
