Game Notes: Washington Redskins vs. Tennessee Titans

• Kicker Kai Forbath converted a 22-yard field goal in the final seconds of the game to give the Washington Redskins a 19-17 victory against the Tennessee Titans in front of an announced crowd of 75,227 people at FedExField on Sunday.
• The win was the Redskins’ first by scoring in the final two minutes of regulation since a 45-41 victory against the Chicago Bears on Oct. 20, 2013. Running back Roy Helu, Jr. scored on a three-yard run with 45 seconds remaining in that game to give the Redskins a victory.
• The game-winning field goal was Forbath’s second of his career and his first since Dec. 9, 2012 vs. Baltimore. Forbath set a career high with four made field goals.
• The game-winner was Forbath’s first of his career in regulation; his first career game-winning field goal in 2012 came in overtime. The game-winner with no time remaining in regulation was the Redskins’ first since Nick Novak’s last-second 47-yard field goal to defeat the Dallas Cowboys, 22-19, on Nov. 5, 2006.
• Quarterback Colt McCoy entered the game in the third quarter and completed 11-of-12 passes for 128 yards with one touchdown and a passer rating of 138.9.
• McCoy engineered the second fourth-quarter comeback win of his career and his first since Sept. 25, 2011 vs. Miami as a member of the Cleveland Browns.
• Quarterback Kirk Cousins started the game and completed 10-of-16 passes for 139 yards. McCoy and Cousins became the first quarterback duo to each complete at least 10 passes in the same game for the Redskins since Todd Collins (15) and Jason Campbell (10) accomplished the feat vs. Chicago on Dec. 6, 2007.
• On his first career pass attempt as a member of the Redskins, McCoy connected with wide receiver Pierre Garçon for a 70-yard touchdown.
• The touchdown pass was McCoy’s first as a member of the Redskins and his first since Dec. 23, 2012 at Denver as a member of the Browns.
• McCoy became the first Redskins player to throw a touchdown pass on his first pass attempt with the team since wide receiver Brandon Banks threw a 49-yard touchdown pass on his only pass attempt in Washington on Dec. 11, 2011 vs. New England.
• The touchdown pass was McCoy’s first of the season and the 22nd of his career. The touchdown reception was Garçon’s third of the season and the 28th of his career.
• Garçon now has touchdown receptions in consecutive games for the first time since Weeks 15-16 last season.
• The 70-yard reception was Garçon’s longest since an 88-yard touchdown reception in his first game as a member of the Redskins in Week 1 of the 2012 season at New Orleans.
• The Redskins opened the game with a nine-play, 67-yard scoring drive culminating in a 31-yard field goal by Forbath. It marked the second time this season the Redskins had scored on their first drive of a game (Week 3 at Philadelphia – touchdown).
• The Redskins held the Titans to 236 total yards, the defense’s second-best performance by yardage this season (148 vs. Jacksonville in Week 2).
• Tight end Niles Paul recorded a career long 50-yard reception on the team’s first drive on a pass from Cousins. Paul’s previous long was a 48-yard reception in Week 1 at Houston.
• Paul’s 50-yard reception was the Redskins’ longest by a tight end since Fred Davis recorded a 71-yard reception vs. Philadelphia in Week 10 of the 2010 season.
• With the long receptions by Garçon and Paul, the Redskins now have seven receptions of 50-plus yards this season, exceeding their output from the 2013 season (three) and matching their output from the 2012 season (seven).
• Paul also recorded a fumble recovery in the third quarter on a muffed punt by the Titans.
• Cornerback Bashaud Breeland recorded his first career interception in the second quarter, picking off Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst.
• Defensive end Frank Kearse notched his third sack of the season in second quarter, improving upon his existing career high.
• Linebacker Keenan Robinson posted a game-high and career-high 14 tackles.
• Linebacker Will Compton made his second career start and posted a career-high six tackles.
• Fullback Darrel Young recorded a season-long 14-yard rush in the third quarter.
• Defensive end Stephen Bowen made his season debut after being activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Saturday.
• Linebacker Jackson Jeffcoat made his NFL debut.
• The Redskins evened their all-time series record against the Titans’ franchise at 6-6. The win was the Redskins’ first at home against the Titans’ franchise since recording a 16-13 home win against the Houston Oilers on Nov. 3, 1991.
• The Redskins are 2-1 against AFC opponents this season. Washington has won at least two games against the AFC in three straight seasons.
• The Redskins are now 9-6 against AFC South opponents since divisional realignment in 2002. The team has won four of its last five contests against AFC South squads with two wins against both the Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars.
• The game was the culmination of the Redskins’ annual Alumni Homecoming celebration. Players in attendance represented nearly 500 combined seasons of Redskins service, 77 combined Super Bowl appearances, 47 combined Super Bowl titles, 25 members of the 80 Greatest Redskins, 14 Redskins Ring of Famers and five Pro Football Hall of Famers.
• At halftime, the Redskins inducted Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien as the 46th member in the team’s Ring of Fame.
• The Redskins extended their NFL-best sellout streak to 389 games, including postseason play.
